Bowser's defeat cutscenes, before and after Giga Bowser, now run at around
30 FPS instead of 8-12 FPS, and the freeze when Bowser turns into Giga
Bowser is much shorter.
Fixed a ghost trail that stayed on screen during the Giga Bowser defeat
scene.
Faster rendering in busy scenes. Graphics preparation and character
animation now run on a second CPU core, textures are stored in a layout the
Vita's GPU reads faster, and per-object overhead is lower. The results
screen went from about 12 to about 18 FPS, and 4-fighter matches run
noticeably smoother.
Characters with bump-mapped materials, such as Bowser, no longer slow
matches down.
The game keeps running at full speed when the frame rate dips, instead of
slowing down.

VitaKotor v0.2.0 — the movies play, and the buttons work
Until now every cutscene was skipped and the Vita's buttons worked but mapped wrong, so the game was played by touch alone. This release plays the movies, with sound, and maps the game's own gamepad controls onto the Vita — while keeping the touchscreen, so you can use whichever suits the moment.

Most of this release is the work of pyjabox, who contributed it in pull request #7. Thank you.

What changed
Cutscenes play. The game's Bink movies now run with video and sound instead of being skipped. Tap the screen or press a button to skip one.

The buttons work. The left stick moves, the right stick turns the camera, the D-pad navigates, Cross accepts, Circle cancels, Square and Triangle are the game's X and Y, L and R are the shoulder actions, and Start pauses.

The touchscreen still works, alongside the buttons. Mix them freely: tap a menu item, then carry on with the stick. The rear touch panel stays off, so holding the console never taps anything.

The minimap stays inside its frame, and the hazy rectangle over the class picker and the Quick/Custom Character screen is gone. GUI panels are now clipped to their own area on real hardware, the way the game expects.

Less work while you play. The audio mixer now holds its lock for much less time, and several rendering paths do less per frame. These came across from pyjabox's KOTOR II port, where they were measured; how much they help here has not been measured yet.

Why the buttons never worked before
The game has a full Android gamepad layout built in. The Vita reports its buttons in a different order from an Android controller, so every press arrived under the wrong number and matched nothing. The loader now translates each button into the number the game expects before the game sees it.

Honest limits
A normal attack is easiest by touch. The Android layout puts some actions on the L2 and R2 triggers, which the Vita does not have. Tap the on-screen attack button.

Touch and buttons together have only had short sessions. Everything worked in testing, but nobody has played an hour with both yet. An older build once stopped responding to input about 50 minutes in; relaunching cleared it.

Not every movie has been checked. The ones played so far run with sound and return to the game cleanly.

Voice-over is English in every language, as it was in the retail releases.

Distant sounds are still too loud. They hold at about a fifth of full volume instead of fading out.

Shiny armour still reflects the room. Still not understood.

Geometry can still come apart late in a long session. It has not been demonstrated fixed.

Everything else from v0.1.13 still applies
Playable from boot through character creation and on into the game. Combat, dialogue, inventory, containers, saves, the swoop bike race and Force powers all work, the on-screen keyboard covers character and save names, the music plays, and the console asks which language you want.

Still outstanding: no trophies.

You need your own copy of the game
This is a loader, not a game. It needs the Android release's main and patch .obb files, which you must own.

Something broken?
Open an issue with ux0:data/kotor/log.txt attached. Every fix in this release came out of one of those logs.

Important

DeltaRepack rebuilds GameMaker Texture Pages into a more granular layout designed to reduce the amount of unrelated texture data kept resident by a Room.
Large sparse atlases can be replaced with smaller or rectangular power-of-two layouts where appropriate.
DeltaCache generates GPU-ready .bc3.pvr and .r444 files from the final rebuilt data.win.
Generated caches are validated against the final TXTR metadata before being accepted.
Font, textbox, and other pixel-critical Texture Pages remain on the safer lossless-compatible path.
BC3/DXT5 is used where its memory savings are beneficial without sacrificing critical UI/text quality.
Missing eligible caches can be generated locally on the Vita during GENERATING TEXTURES.
Complete cache sets use fast completion markers instead of rescanning every texture file at every startup.
Language packs keep their own matching cache layouts when their data.win changes atlas contents or indices.
The higher rebuilt Texture Page count is intentional: smaller pages allow the runtime to keep a more focused per-Room working set instead of keeping a few oversized atlases resident.

The native video work from v0.72 is now part of the v0.73 public release.

Tenna Dance

Added the native SceAvPlayer backend for GameMaker video functions (no FFmpeg/libavcodec or external Vita video plugin is required).
Implemented Vita paths for video_open, video_draw, video_close, status, position, duration, looping, and volume.
Added GameMaker-compatible video_start / video_end async event handling.
Video frames are decoded by SceAvPlayer and presented through VitaGL/SceGxm.
Chapter 3 retains the original GameMaker subtitle/event lifecycle around native video playback.
Added safer CPU/PHYCONT cleanup after video playback.

The SceAvPlayer teardown path was revised after investigation of a post-video Vita crash.

The Vita video-audio worker is now stopped and joined before the AVPlayer controller is destroyed:

Audio
Audio handling has received major transition and streaming improvements.

Cup and cakes

Music playback across Room transitions has been improved to preserve compatible streams and playback positions whenever possible. Transitions are now smoother when the destination Room changes music, reducing unnecessary restarts, repeated track intros, and audio issues during long Room or texture-loading stalls.
Several fixes were also made to the streaming backend, including corrected stale OpenAL buffer handling, proper seeking for streamed OGG audio, and earlier audio initialization for Vita runtime paths that depend on it.
Native video playback now uses a dedicated Vita audio path, preventing it from disrupting the game's normal OpenAL output. Loading and mini-game sounds also use dedicated OpenAL sources, allowing them to play even while normal startup audio is intentionally held.
Frequently used battle SFX can now be prepared earlier, reducing first-use stalls during gameplay.



Battle dialogue rendering
The battle-dialogue clipping issue reported in previous public builds has received a renderer-side fix.

Fixed the final pixel row of some fnt_main glyphs being clipped in battle dialogue.
The issue was caused by VitaGL rasterization at the glyph quad boundary, not by missing font pixels in data.win or the generated texture cache.

3. FILES THE USER MUST PREPARE
------------------------------------------------------------

Decode the supported APK with JADX or apktool. A normal ZIP extraction is not
sufficient for all resources because the APK uses compiled resource mappings
and its raw archive filenames are obfuscated.

Example JADX command:

jadx -d zenonia3_decoded "Zenonia 3.apk"

Create this directory on the Vita:

ux0:data/zenonia3/

Copy the decoded files into the following layout:

Preserve every subdirectory beneath assets. Do not flatten that directory.
Use only the armeabi-v7a version of libgameDSO.so, not the x86 version.


4. INSTALLING THE VPK
------------------------------------------------------------

Current tested VPK SHA-256:

Current tested VPK size:
573,340 bytes

1. Copy the Zenonia 3 VPK to the Vita.
2. Open VitaShell and install the VPK.
3. Confirm that ux0:data/zenonia3 contains the files described above.
4. Reboot if the kernel plugins were newly installed or changed.
5. Start Zenonia 3 from the LiveArea.

The application title ID is Z3VITA001. Installing a newer build with the same
title ID updates the application without deleting ux0:data/zenonia3 or its
save files.

6. SAVE DATA AND GENERATED FILES
------------------------------------------------------------

The game creates its save and configuration files in ux0:data/zenonia3.
Examples include:

Save0.dat
Save1.dat
Save2.dat
option.sav
launcher.sel
loader.log

These files are generated locally. Back them up before replacing or deleting
the data directory. Do not distribute another player's save data as part of a
clean installation package.


7. TROUBLESHOOTING
------------------------------------------------------------

Application does not start or immediately crashes:
- Confirm kubridge is installed, listed under *KERNEL, and the Vita was
rebooted.
- Confirm libshacccg.suprx is installed in one of the supported locations.
- Confirm libgameDSO.so is the armeabi-v7a library from the verified APK.

Missing graphics, title screen, or game resources:
- Confirm that the complete decoded assets directory was copied recursively.
- Confirm all seven title PNG files are in ux0:data/zenonia3/title.

No audio:
- Confirm the decoded files retain names such as s000.mp3 and s116.mp3.
- Confirm they are directly inside ux0:data/zenonia3/audio.

Save data is reported as abnormal:
- Confirm the current VPK is installed.
- Do not rename or manually modify SaveN.dat or option.sav.
- Check ux0:data/zenonia3/loader.log after reproducing the problem.

VPK installation error 0x8010113D:
- Use a current VPK whose sce_sys/icon0.png is a 128 x 128, 8-bit indexed,
non-interlaced PNG. Older test packages used an incompatible icon encoding.


8. REDISTRIBUTION NOTICE
------------------------------------------------------------

A public release should contain only original loader code/binaries,
documentation, and a user-side extraction tool. Do not redistribute the APK,
libgameDSO.so, game assets, audio, or other copyrighted game data without
permission from the rights holder.

The current LiveArea icon is derived from original Zenonia 3 artwork. A public
release should replace it with original artwork or have the user extract and
install it locally unless permission has been obtained.

Zenonia and related names and artwork belong to their respective rights
holders. This project is an independent compatibility effort and is not an
official release.

Save system optimized (incorrect floor/ceiling textures were loading in some areas)
Level selection in the title menu reworked
Lives added to the HUD: Note - you no longer have unlimited lives; you start with 3 and can increase them to up to 5 through a minigame.
The original Defender minigame has been fixed and activated: You can now earn lives throughout the game, up to a maximum of 5.
Reflections reworked: In addition to weapons and projectiles, enemies and walls can now also reflect off the ground.
Bloody Violence mode introduced: Eliminating enemies now procedurally creates pools and splatters of blood on the floor and walls.
Image expansion in 16:9 mode has been reworked.
The title bar has also been integrated into Zombie Massacre, and the intro/title screen sequence in Gloom Classic has been fixed.
