HPL2 Handyman is a community-maintained fork of the released Amnesia: The Dark Descent game and HPL2 engine source. It modernizes the desktop engine and brings the game to additional platforms while preserving compatibility with the original game data. It is not an official Frictional Games release.

This repository and its release packages contain engine code only. A legal copy of Amnesia: The Dark Descent is required. At the time of writing, only the Steam release has been tested; data from other releases may work but is not yet verified. Frictional Games' copyrighted retail assets are not included.

Hi everyone! Big update here, since I got my SD2Vita I have been doing a lot of optimization.
I bumped the resolution of the Vita port to 480x272, so it is just a little bit more clearer, the HUD will always be Native resolution, so it doesn't become blurry.
I added a optimizer, that let's you cache the textures before hand, which improves loading times substantially, this can be skipped, and only needs to be done once!
I have made a lot of optimizations with the frame rate, and stutters. I will admit that the game is not smooth 30fps all the way through, but it is much better than it was at last release! Notable, audio, like the thunder, doesn't freeze the game for a good second, which you would notice right away at the start of the game, that is NO MORE.
There is still quite a bit of work that could be done, and I wouldn't mind if anyone would like to contribute, feel free to make pull requests. I also added a updater for the Vita, which should check on startup if you have internet, if there is a new update, you can skip it if you like, it might need more testing and refining though.

QoL improvement, I have added Hint sizes, I noticed while testing a bit, I felt the hints could be a bit hard to read at it's original size, so I have added Hint sizes, this can be changed in the gameplay options, for the Vita it's default on Medium.

I have also made the port more accessible on Android, no longer requiring Vulkan 1.3, should work on Android devices that support Vulkan 1.1+

Planned features:
Controller detection for Android and PC, where the controller glyphs change depending on which type of Controller you are using, automatically, and getting rid of Controller hints when you are using Keyboard and Mouse only!
Improving the Vita control scheme, there is a part of the game where you should be using the directional button to do a puzzle, which is currently mapped incorrectly, sorry!
Improving the Android control scheme, and make it aware of desktop mode, as in when you connect the phone to a TV, the game should take advantage of that, and remove the touch only control scheme, and be able to be played with Mouse and Keyboard, or a Controller.
Better options for every platform, like keybinds/sensitivity, etc.

Known Issues:
Android stutters, this will be looked into!
Vita unstable FPS, yeah obviously, but it's a bit better now atleast!
Android running is awkward, I'll try to make it better!
Vita's inventory, pause menu, and journal, doesn't fade the background.
