What can my PS3 do?

Every PS3 can run homebrew. Tell us your model and firmware and we say which way in fits it: PS3HEN on any model, full custom firmware on the older ones, or the BadWDSD modchip for the rest. Each page lists the exact files, with a hash for each one that has one; Brewology links them on the sites that publish them and hosts no exploit or firmware.

The model number starts with CECH and is printed on the console's label, on the back or the bottom.

Settings, System Settings, System Information. HEN is not custom firmware: if you start homebrew with ★ Enable HEN after each restart, choose HFW. Do not update to find out: Sony's update can close a way in.

Evilnat 4.93 CFW (Cobra 8.5) with the 4.93 Flash Writer

For: original (fat) PS3s, Slim CECH-20xx and 21xx, and CECH-25xx with MinVer 3.56 or lower · updated Oct 29, 2026

BadWDSD qCFW: custom firmware on Slim CECH-25xx and 30xx and every Super Slim (modchip)

A Raspberry Pi Pico soldered to the board brings custom firmware (qCFW, based on Evilnat 4.93 PEX) to the models software cannot reach. Soldering required, and the chip stays in for every boot.

For: Slim CECH-25xx and 30xx, and every Super Slim (NOR and eMMC) · updated Oct 29, 2026

Already running HEN or custom firmware? Block Sony's updates with webMAN MOD 1.47.50d and never install an update until the scene says your way in supports it.
