Evilnat 4.93 CFW (Cobra 8.5) with the 4.93 Flash Writer

Full custom firmware for the models that can take it: patch the flash once from HFW 4.93.1, then install Evilnat's 4.93 firmware. Already on an older CFW? Install the 4.93 PUP straight over it.

For: original (fat) PS3s, Slim CECH-20xx and 21xx, and CECH-25xx with MinVer 3.56 or lower · updated Oct 29, 2026 · not sure? check your PS3

Before you start

  • Only on a model that can take it. The 4.93 Flash Writer checks MinVer and stops on a console that cannot.
  • Use only the 4.93 Flash Writer. The 4.85 and 4.90 writers still linked from older pages are for older HFW.
  • Never install custom firmware while the console is in Factory Service Mode (FSM): Evilnat's own warning.
  • Dump the flash to USB before you write anything, and check the dump with PyPS3tools. Keep that dump somewhere safe.
  • Pick the right flash type: NAND on CECHA, B, C, E and G; NOR on every other model.
  • Never switch off while the flash is written.
  • On a retail (CEX) console, install PEX (Evilnat also publishes a plain CEX build). D-PEX is for DEX consoles only. Do not use a 9.99 downgrader: it can brick a MinVer 3.56 console.
  • The Flash Writer's author recommends hosting it yourself from the zip rather than a third-party copy, which could be altered.

Steps

  1. Install HFW 4.93.1 first: steps 1 to 3 of PS3HEN.
  2. Open the Flash Writer 4.93 in the PS3 browser (or your own copy from Flash Writer 4.93, to host yourself).
  3. Choose NAND or NOR to match your model, and dump the flash to USB.
  4. On a PC, check the dump with PyPS3tools. Stop if it reports a problem.
  5. Write the patch. Do not switch off. Then dump again and check that dump with PyPS3tools too: the writer shows its "successful" message on a timer, so the second dump is the real check.
  6. Put Evilnat CFW 4.93 PEX (Cobra 8.5) on the USB stick as PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP and install it with Update via Storage Media.
  7. Once on CFW: enable the QA flags, dump your eid_root_key to USB, then install webMAN MOD 1.47.50d.
