v2.7 · Oct 8, 2026
<p align="center"><img src="https://github.com/elripalda/Porpoise-Dolphin-Emulator-for-PS5/raw/Main/docs/images/banner.png" alt="Porpoise" width="100%"></p>
Porpoise 2.7 is a big one:
- Home screen tiles: give any game its own tile on the PS5 home screen that opens straight into it (a game's settings → Home screen).
- Tile art editor: see the tile's icon and background as the home screen shows them. Use the cover, the back of the box, a screenshot, the title screen or your own picture; crop and zoom it, or set it whole over a blur, white, black or a Porpoise pattern.
- Settings wait for Apply (Square), ask before you leave with changes, and offer a restart for the few that need one, in the menus and in-game.
- Inverted sticks: the control stick and the C-stick, up-down, left-right or both, for each game.
- Scanlines, Shadow mask and LCD screen filters.
- First-start setup questions, and a Diagnostic test in Settings → About.
- Optimizations, stability improvements and fixes for reported bugs.
Also in 2.7
- Faster save states (about half a second to save), with pictures of the whole image at any resolution.
- Download covers again, for every game or just one, and the cover glides into the launch screen.
- Faster start: games are found in the background, and system folders are skipped.
- PAL games that switch to 60 Hz are followed.
- Stay in the sandbox (Settings → Games) for consoles where freeing Porpoise closes it, and Porpoise asks what to do if it closed last time.
- Revolution shows every game, GameCube and Wii.
- Other apps can start a game in Porpoise (
--rom, thanks to MartinPham).
Catching up from an older version?
- 2.5: smoother sound and sound presets, an Audio tab in-game, the GameCube controller for Wii games, Dolphin's graphics mods, and controller extras (light bar colors, turbo, quick save buttons).
- 2.1 and 2.1.1: RetroAchievements with PS5-style trophy popups and achievement lists, your own cheats folder, custom buttons for every Wii controller, true widescreen per game, Porpoise's folder on extended storage or USB, and Online (beta) for WiiLink.
🙏 Special thanks
A huge thank you to Martin Pham (@MartinPham). Home screen tiles were his idea: he suggested them, built the first version (#11) and has supported Porpoise all along. Thank you, Martin, for your contributions and support!
What's next 👀
Triforce arcade support is in the works: the GameCube-based arcade board behind games like Mario Kart Arcade GP 1 and 2. Stay tuned on the Discord.

Porpoise 2.5 brings the new sound from 2.5 Beta 1 to everyone, plus a few new things:
- Smoother sound: when a game runs below full speed, its sound comes through Dolphin's own mixer, as on a PC, instead of crackling. Sound presets in Settings → Audio, and an Audio tab in the in-game menu. Classic (2.1) brings back the old sound.
- GameCube controller for Wii games that take one, such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii.
- Graphics mods: Dolphin's built-in bloom, depth of field and HUD mods for about fifty games, in each game's Graphics settings.
- Controller extras in Settings → Controls: light bar colors, a turbo button, quick save buttons and, in beta, a GameCube-style trigger click.
- Optimizations and fixes for reported bugs.

- Achievement popups drawn over the game when the console's own can't show.
- A clearer message, with the reason, when a game doesn't start.
- RetroAchievements fixes, stability improvements, optimizations and fixes for reported bugs.

v2.1 · Oct 6, 2026
<p align="center"><img src="https://github.com/elripalda/Porpoise-Dolphin-Emulator-for-PS5/raw/Main/docs/images/banner.png" alt="Porpoise" width="100%"></p>
Porpoise 2.1 brings RetroAchievements with unlocks that pop up like PS5 trophies, your own cheats folder, custom buttons for every Wii controller, Porpoise's folder on extended storage or a USB drive, an Online switch for WiiLink, and fixes for what you reported after 2.0.
RetroAchievements (softcore)
- Sign in from your library: press L1 + Square (or go to Settings → Games → RetroAchievements) and sign in with your RetroAchievements account. The panel has its own on-screen keyboard. Porpoise keeps a sign-in token, never your password.
- Unlocks pop up like PS5 trophies: the achievement's badge, its title and the trophy sound. Completing a game plays the platinum sound, and each game starts with a popup showing how many you've unlocked.
- The popups go through your jailbreak's ELF loader (port 9021); without one they're plain notifications.
- Built on Dolphin's own RetroAchievements support, so every disc format Porpoise plays is recognized and save states keep your progress. Softcore only: hardcore mode isn't available.
Cheats and buttons
- Your own cheats folder: drop a game's codes in
/data/porpoise/cheats/<game ID>.ini(Dolphin's Action Replay or Gecko format). They turn on by themselves when the game starts, and each one gets its own switch in the game's Cheats. Wiimmfi patch codes go here too. - Customize buttons for Wii controllers: Remote + Nunchuk, Remote, Sideways and Classic each get their own layout (Settings → Controls → Customize buttons, L1 / R1 to pick the controller).
Video and system
- Output resolution is now the first row of Video, and Match the PS5 is the default: Porpoise keeps the console's own output, so your TV doesn't switch modes when Porpoise opens.
- Online (beta) in Settings → System: WiiConnect24 channels through WiiLink.
- Move Porpoise's folder to extended storage or a USB drive (Settings → Games). Settings, saves, save states, covers and texture packs all move together, with a progress bar.
Fixes
- The Custom textures row no longer disappears from Details after you play.
- Games with a texture pack now say so when they start: Custom textures: N found.
- Porpoise asks to leave the app sandbox before anything else starts, which should stop it closing right after Lapy frees it.
- The sandbox message has a Don't show again button, and a switch in Settings → Games brings it back.

v2.0 · Oct 5, 2026
<p align="center"><img src="https://github.com/elripalda/Porpoise-Dolphin-Emulator-for-PS5/raw/Main/docs/images/banner.png" alt="Porpoise" width="100%"></p>
Porpoise 2.0 is the biggest update yet. Games run faster and smoother on a newer Dolphin and a newer PS5 graphics driver. There are fifteen themes, with colors, fonts and layouts to mix. WiiWare, Virtual Console and channels now play, along with homebrew apps. There are new sound and system options, the DualSense's microphone and speaker work in games, and sixteen languages are included.
Performance
- Much faster in 3D-heavy games. Recent Dolphin rounds every single-precision multiply-add exactly as the GameCube does, and on the PS5 that correction costs a lot in games full of 3D math. It's now off, as it was in Dolphin before 2025. Settings → System → Exact multiply-add turns it back on for any game that needs it.
- The emulator gets cores of its own. The emulated CPU and its graphics each run on a PS5 core that nothing else busy shares (Settings → System → Emulator on its own cores).
- V-Sync on the TV's own refresh. Frames wait on the TV's vblank instead of Porpoise's own timer. A late frame doesn't wait for the next one, so a game that runs just short of 60 doesn't drop to 30.
- No more waiting on the sound. 1.5.1 held almost every frame back for the speakers. Not anymore.
- 1080p output by default. The new graphics driver lets Porpoise send a 1080p picture instead of drawing every frame at 4K. Settings → Video → Output resolution offers 1440p and 4K.
- Newer Dolphin core, which writes new shader pipelines in the background instead of in the middle of a frame, so games stutter less the first time they draw something new.
- Faster, smoother menus. Porpoise opens about five seconds sooner after its first start. Covers load in the background and fade in, and Memory Cards opens without a hitch.
- No more freeze when you quit to the library. The game fades to black while Porpoise saves your spot, and the menus fade back in once they're ready.
A new look
- Fifteen themes, in Settings → Interface → Theme: Porpoise, Revolution, Star Cube, OLED, Minimal, Cube, Broadcast, Terminal, Depth, Aurora, Aero, Dot Matrix, Synthwave, Paper and Crystal. Each has its own room behind the menus.
- Star Cube has a home of its own. A big glass cube turns slowly on black while small cubes drift around it. Its edges are Games, Calendar, Memory Cards and Settings.
- Fifteen color palettes and eight fonts that work with any theme. Choosing a theme brings its own colors and font, and you can change either afterward.
- Eight library views: Cover flow, Wheel, Disc flow, Shelf, Box, List, Stack and Helix. Memory Cards has four views: Cards, Blocks, By game and Cubes.
- Liquid glass panels and buttons, smoother motion everywhere, and an in-game menu that matches your theme.
- A fresh start: the first start offers three looks to begin with. Settings → Interface → Reinitialize Porpoise starts over at any time. Your games, folders, memory cards, saves and save states are kept.
More to play
- WiiWare, Virtual Console and channels:
.wadfiles you made from your own Wii show up in the library with their names and banners. A new Channels filter lists just them. - Homebrew apps: an app folder (
boot.dolorboot.elfwithmeta.xmlandicon.png) shows up with its name and icon. - WBFS and GCZ games are recognized. Wii games in
.wbfsare no longer listed as GameCube. If a game is ever detected wrong, set it in its settings under Controls → Console. - Wii multiplayer: in Wii games, every other controller is another player's Wii Remote, with its own pointer and motion.
- Fast forward buttons: in any game, touch pad + R1 steps through off, 2x and 4x, and touch pad + R2 fast-forwards while you hold it.
- Quick resume (beta, off): leave a game from the in-game menu, and next time Porpoise offers Resume or Start Over.
- Cheats and patches (beta): each game's settings list the codes Dolphin knows for it, with one switch each.
- Saves on a USB drive (beta): copy GameCube and Wii saves to a drive and back.
Sound and system (beta)
- Sound (Settings → Audio):
- Accurate audio (Dolphin's exact sound chip).
- Wii Remote speaker, on the TV or from each player's DualSense.
- Audio buffer (Low, Normal or Safe).
- Audio stretching, so a game that slows down doesn't crackle.
- Microphone: the DualSense's mic is the GameCube Microphone (Mario Party 6 and 7, hold R3 to talk) and the Wii Speak.
- The consoles' own settings (Settings → System):
- Wii widescreen, PAL games at 60 Hz, and the sensor bar above or below the TV.
- GameCube boot animation, from your own GameCube's BIOS.
- Start Wii discs in the Wii Menu, from your own Wii Menu.
Porpoise includes no Nintendo files. The README shows where to put your own.
Everything else
- Sixteen languages, with four new ones: 简体中文, 繁體中文, 한국어 and Türkçe. All menus are translated again.
- Accessibility: text size, color filters for color blindness, high contrast, reduced motion and larger button hints.
- Check my setup: a checklist of what Porpoise can see (/data, USB drives, games, covers) and how to fix anything missing.
- Choose a version: Settings → About lists every release, so you can move to any version, newer or older. Beta updates offers test versions.
- Sturdier: damaged or unusual game files can no longer close Porpoise while it reads your library.
- New icon and backdrop on the PS5 home screen, and no more Dolphin messages over your game.

v1.5.1 · Oct 5, 2026
<p align="center"><img src="https://github.com/elripalda/Porpoise/raw/main/docs/images/banner.png" alt="Porpoise" width="100%"></p>
Porpoise 1.5.1. Fixes for "Porpoise can't reach /data", and games on USB and external drives found more easily.
What's fixed
Getting out of the sandbox
If Porpoise starts inside the app sandbox, it can't see /data or any USB drive. This update makes getting out of it much more dependable:
- Keeps asking. Porpoise now asks the jailbreak daemon again for a few seconds instead of once. This targets the "worked the first time, then couldn't read /data" reports, where the daemon wasn't ready yet or the first try lost a timing race.
- Works with more daemons: etaHEN, OnionHEN, and both the classic and the newer Lapy daemon.
- Clear instructions on screen when it still can't get out.
What to set up, depending on what you run:
- etaHEN: turn on Legacy Command Server in etaHEN's Toolbox settings. etaHEN's own app list is built in and can't be edited to add Porpoise, so adding PPSA99764 to a whitelist won't help.
- OnionHEN: add
PPSA99764toexact_title_idsunder[app_jailbreak]in/data/OnionHEN/config.ini, then restart the console or reload OnionHEN. - Lapy daemon: load it before opening Porpoise.
If a launch still lands in the sandbox, open Porpoise once more.
Games on USB and external drives
- USB drives, PS5 extended storage and the usual game folders are now searched four folders deep, so games sorted into subfolders (like
games/Wii/...) are found without adding the folder by hand. - How to play from a drive:
- Format it exFAT (FAT32 can't hold files over 4 GB; the PS5 doesn't read NTFS).
- Copy your games onto it, up to four folders deep.
- Plug it into the PS5, make sure your jailbreak daemon is set up as above, and open Porpoise.
- Plugged it in after opening Porpoise? Use Settings → Games → Search for games now.
Full steps, including PS5 extended storage, are in the README.
Install or update
From 1.1 or 1.5: open Settings → About → Updates and install 1.5.1 from there.
By hand or new install:

PPSA99764folder into/data/homebrew/over FTP or with PS5 Upload. - For a new install, register it like your other homebrew (for example with ShadowMountPlus).
Still stuck? Open an issue with your firmware, which HEN or daemon you run, and trace.txt from /data/homebrew/PPSA99764/.

Porpoise is GPL-3.0-or-later; every component's licence and source revision is listed in licenses/README.txt inside the zip.

Porpoise 1.5. A brand-new theme called Revolution, Wii games that play their own animated banners, the DualSense as a Wii Remote, and Wii saves in Memory Cards.
What's new
Revolution: a new theme
Turn it on in Settings → Interface → Theme.
- A bright, clean home screen of game tiles, twelve to a page, with a segmented clock and the date along the bottom and round buttons for Settings and Memory Cards. Arrows at the sides (or L2 / R2) turn the page.
- Point with the controller: a hand pointer that follows the DualSense. It opens over empty space, points over anything you can pick, and leans as you twist the controller, with a tick and a tap of rumble as it lands. The D-pad works too, the touch pad turns pointing on and off, and R3 re-centres it.
- Wii games play their own banners. Porpoise reads each Wii disc's own tile and banner (
.iso,.rvz,.wia,.wbfs,.ciso,.gcz) and plays it animated on the home screen. GameCube games show their covers. - Opening a game: Cross grows its tile to fill the screen. The full banner plays with its jingle, with Wii Controls (or Game Settings) and Start below, plus save states, save data and favourite. Triangle switches to the game's info, and Circle shrinks it back into its tile. Square on a tile starts the game straight away.
- The whole app goes white with it: Memory Cards, Settings, the Wii Remote setup, dialogs and the in-game menu.
- Prefer the cover flow? Interface → Home screen puts it in the Revolution theme too.
- Switching to Revolution shows your Wii games and Wii saves. Switching back to Porpoise shows every game and the GameCube cards.
The DualSense as a Wii Remote (beta)
- Every Wii game gets a Wii controller: Remote + Nunchuk (the default), Remote, Remote sideways, Classic Controller, or two controllers (alpha: a second DualSense is the Nunchuk).
- Point at the screen with the gyro (hold R1 a moment to centre it), the touch pad or the right stick. Tilt, swing and point like a real Remote, and flick to shake. The pointer is smoothed against hand shake without lagging behind.
- Wii Remote setup: pick the controller, centre it, then point at two corners of your TV, so the pointer lands where you point from where you sit. It can come up before each Wii game (Triangle skips it), with Simple and Advanced modes and four presets.
- Grip: Auto works out how you're holding the DualSense (flat in both hands, or on end in either hand), or pick one yourself.
- How to hold it: a page in Settings → Wii Remote that draws the DualSense as each Wii controller, with every button labelled.
- In a Wii game, the in-game menu can recalibrate the pointer, open the setup or switch presets.
Memory Cards
- Wii saves: L2 / R2 switches between the GameCube cards and your Wii saves, each with its own banner, icon and name. Square backs a save up and Triangle deletes it.
Faster and lighter
- Banners and covers stop all background work the moment a game starts, so the game gets the console to itself.
- Animated tiles are streamed straight to the GPU a frame at a time, and covers and banners that are off screen give their memory back.
Also new
- Sort & filter: show All, GameCube or Wii games, and Get covers and info now to fetch missing art.
- Custom texture packs now load.
- Covers arrive for games added while a download is running.
- English buttons and prompts now use Title Case.
- The updater shows Finishing up with a spinner while it installs.
Install or update
From 1.1: open Settings → About → Updates and install 1.5 from there.
By hand or new install:
- Download
Porpoise-1.5.zipbelow and unzip it. You get a folder namedPPSA99764. - If you're updating, delete
/data/homebrew/PPSA99764/on the PS5 first. Your games, saves, covers and settings live in/data/porpoise/and are kept. - Copy the
PPSA99764folder into/data/homebrew/over FTP or with PS5 Upload. - For a new install, register it like your other homebrew (for example with ShadowMountPlus).
You need a jailbroken PS5 with etaHEN and kstuff. More in the README, the changelog and the credits.

Porpoise 1.1 (build 15). This update adds save states, an in-game menu, recommended settings per game (beta), more filters and borders, twelve languages, a reworked folder browser and updates from inside Porpoise.
Changes
Games and folders
- Folder browser: Settings → Games → Add a game folder opens on the whole console at
/data. Folders show how many games they hold, and game files are listed under them. Square adds the folder you're in (add as many as you like), Triangle lists your drives and Porpoise's games folder, and Cross on a game on a USB drive copies it to the console. - Sandbox fix: if the console starts Porpoise inside the app sandbox (only a few folders visible, no
/data/porpoise, games not found), Porpoise asks the HEN to let it out. With etaHEN 2.4B or later, add PPSA99764 to etaHEN's app jailbreak list (or turn on Legacy CMD Server) for this to work.
In-game menu (Options + touch pad)
- Four tabs, switched with L1 / R1: Game, Video, Graphics and Controls. Changes apply at once and are saved for that game.
- Save states: three slots per game, with pictures. Saving over a used slot asks first, and a spinner shows while the state is written. Fast save states (on by default) makes saving take a moment instead of several seconds. You can also start a game from a slot on its details page.
- Setups: save a game's Video and Graphics settings and use them on other games.
- Fast forward: 2x or 4x.
Game settings
- Recommended (beta): a game's settings start with Dolphin's own fixes for it and Porpoise's picks tested on PS5, each with an on/off switch. Only a few games have picks so far; more will be added as games are tested. The first is for WWE Day of Reckoning 2.
- A game's Dolphin settings now stay in place when you change graphics from the in-game menu.
Controls
- PlayStation is now the default layout (Cross A, Circle B). The GameCube layout matches Dolphin's (Circle A, Cross B). Four layouts of your own (My layout 1–4); 1.0's custom buttons become My layout 1.
- New controller art and button icons from Zacksly's PS5 Button Icons and Controls.
- The DualSense light bar shows each player's colour.
Picture
- Screen filters: Smooth, Sharp, Sharpen, CRT, Arcade CRT, VHS, Soft VHS, 8-bit and Pocket, each with a strength.
- Borders for 4:3 games: Porpoise, Porpoise glass, Midnight, Frost, Carbon, and Arcade, Retro and Synthwave cabinets. You can add your own 1920×1080 PNGs in
/data/porpoise/borders/.
Languages
English, Español (España), Español (Latinoamérica), Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Nederlands, Polski, Português (Portugal), Português (Brasil), Русский and 日本語, each with its flag. The new translations are first drafts; corrections are welcome (see the README).
Library and other changes
- Favourites (Options) and play time, with Most played and Favourites first sorts.
- Updates: Settings → About → Updates checks GitHub and installs a newer Porpoise. Every file is checked before anything is replaced.
- Shaders compile on four threads instead of one, for less stutter.
- A QR code in About for reporting bugs.
- About now credits Mihawk (mihawk-99), who brought the Dolphin core to the PS5.
Install or update
- Download
Porpoise-1.1.zipbelow and unzip it. You get a folder namedPPSA99764. - From 1.0: delete
/data/homebrew/PPSA99764/on the PS5 first. Your games, saves, covers and settings live in/data/porpoise/and are kept. If your 1.0 couldn't reach/data(your games were in the app's ownporpoise/gamesfolder), copy the new files over the old folder instead of deleting it. - Copy the
PPSA99764folder into/data/homebrew/over FTP or with PS5 Upload. - New install: register it like your other homebrew (for example with ShadowMountPlus).
From 1.1 on, Settings → About → Updates can update Porpoise for you.
You need a jailbroken PS5 with etaHEN and kstuff. More in the README, the changelog and the credits.

<p align="center"><img src="https://github.com/elripalda/Porpoise/raw/main/docs/images/banner.png" alt="Porpoise" width="100%"></p>
The first release of Porpoise: a native GameCube and Wii emulator for jailbroken PS5, powered by Dolphin, with a launcher made for the TV and the DualSense.
Highlights
- Cover-flow library of glass box-art tiles that finds your games on its own: the usual folders, USB and extended drives, plus any folder you add. Plays
.iso,.gcm,.rvz,.ciso,.gcz,.wbfsand.wia. - Automatic box art from GameTDB: front covers, back covers and disc label art, along with game details (description, developer, publisher, release date, genre, players and rating).
- Details page: Square flies the box in, Triangle flips to the back cover, the right stick turns the box, L2 / R2 swipe between games, and the disc spins alongside.
- Up to four players, one per signed-in PS5 user. Controllers can join at any time, even mid-game.
- Button layouts: GameCube (the default), PlayStation (Cross A, Circle B), or Custom, set on a picture of the DualSense in Customize buttons. Any game can have its own layout.
- Memory cards: Slot A and Slot B with save icons and banners. Copy and delete saves, each with a confirmation.
- Settings for everything: video, graphics, audio, controls, system, games and interface, plus per-game settings, each with a reset.
- In-game menu (Options + touch pad): resume, quick video and volume settings, Quit to library, Close Porpoise.
- Smooth play: frames locked to your TV's refresh, stutter-free asynchronous ubershaders, clean 48 kHz sound, never above 60 fps.
- Original menu music and sound effects by @elripalda, each with its own switch and volume.
- English, Español, Français, Português. Porpoise follows your PS5's language. More languages are coming in a future update.
Install
You need a jailbroken PS5 with etaHEN and kstuff loaded, and a way to register homebrew (for example ShadowMountPlus).
- Download
Porpoise-1.0.zipbelow and unzip it on your computer. You get a folder namedPPSA99764. - Connect to your PS5 with FTP (for example etaHEN's FTP server and a client like FileZilla) or with PS5 Upload.
- Copy the whole
PPSA99764folder into/data/homebrew/, so you end up with/data/homebrew/PPSA99764/. - Register it the same way as your other homebrew (for example with ShadowMountPlus). The Porpoise tile appears on your home screen.
- Copy your own game backups into
/data/porpoise/games/(Porpoise creates it on first launch), or onto a USB drive, and open Porpoise.
Box art and game details download automatically while the console is online.
Updating later: delete /data/homebrew/PPSA99764/ first, then upload the new folder. Your games, saves, covers and settings live in /data/porpoise/ and stay put.
