Install on your 3DS

QR code of the download link for svdt.3dsx

Method 1Scan the QR code
With 3dsDL (Scan QR Code). Save it to sdmc:/3ds/.

Method 2Send it to your 3DS
Open 3dsDL › Receive on the same Wi-Fi, then press:
Send to 3dsDL
It saves to 3dsDL's Download Folder (Settings), so set that to sdmc:/3ds/ first. Updating? Use Method 1: Send keeps the old file next to the new one.

Other ways to install

From your SD card: copy svdt.3dsx into /3ds/ and start it from the Homebrew Launcher.

About svdt

Start it from the Homebrew Launcher with a target game selected, since it works on that game's save. Keep svdt.3dsx, svdt.smdh and svdt.xml together in sd:/3ds/svdt/.

The left pane shows the save data and the right pane the SD card. Y copies the selected file or folder across, X deletes it (press Select to confirm), and Y on the path line at the top dumps the whole folder to the other side. Select also shows the instructions and changes the sort order. Start quits.

Every time it starts it backs up the whole save to sd:/svdt/[title]/[time]. To stop that, put a non-empty file called disable_auto_backups next to svdt.3dsx, and it only backs up when you hold L at startup. Hold R at startup and it writes the contents of sd:/svdt_inject/ into the save. Both work even with games that hang it, Animal Crossing: New Leaf being one. For games with anti-savegame restore it can reuse the secure value already in the save when you put an older one back.

The author's warnings: some games leave it stuck on a garbled screen, and it doesn't deal well with running out of space.

Release notes

v0.10.42d · 'trailing spaces: the final frontier' release · Oct 16, 2015

Changes:

  • Trailing spaces in folder names were breaking save file backups (#13). This should now be fixed by not having trailing spaces in the first place.
  • Added controls to use ZL/ZR or C-stick to scroll up/down the directory listing more quickly.
  • Various console/UI tweaks and improvements.
  • Oh, I don't know, stability or something.
