About StreaMu

A proxy server on your PC fetches the audio from YouTube and streams it to the 3DS. The recommended way to run it is StreaMu-Server.zip from the release: unzip it and run the EXE on Windows. There's also a Python version for Windows, Mac and Linux that needs Python 3.10 or newer. The server runs on port 8080 and shows a dashboard at localhost:8080 with the address the 3DS should use.

Open StreaMu, type in that address, then press Y to search. Tap a track to play it. You can save tracks to playlists, rename them, and a playlist plays as a queue. Settings cover light and dark themes, accent colours, what L and R do, and English or Japanese. They're kept in /3ds/StreaMu/config.json. PNG images in /3ds/StreaMu/wallpaper/ can be used as the top screen background.

- Y: search
- A: select
- B: back
- Select: track options
- L/R: switch tabs (can be changed)
- Start: quit

The 3DS and the PC have to be on the same Wi-Fi. If it times out, check the server is running and that Windows Firewall lets TCP port 8080 in.

StreaMu v1.5.1 Release Notes

Highlights

  • Improved steady-state Opus playback behavior to reduce low-FPS feeling and refill instability during playback.
  • Reduced noisy hot-path observation overhead while keeping the playback pipeline changes that were validated on hardware.
  • Tightened several playback and UI edge cases, including buffering state transitions, startup connection checks, and QA Remove handling.

Upgrade Notes

  • Update both the 3DS app and the proxy server together.
  • Replace your existing StreaMu-Server.zip with the version from this release.
  • Existing Opus Direct usage stays the same; this is a maintenance and smoothness update rather than a feature reset.

Release Assets

  • streamu.cia
  • streamu.3dsx
  • StreaMu-Server.zip
  • Includes StreaMu-Server.exe, LICENSE, and THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.md.

Validation

  • The Opus playback tuning changes were reviewed in TAKT review runs before release preparation.
  • Device testing reported no regression and no meaningful playback artifacts after the steady-state refill tuning adjustments.
  • GitHub release automation rebuilds the 3DS and server artifacts from the merged main commit before publishing this release.
