Wagic, The Homebrew ?! changelog

v0.17.1 · Jan 18, 2012

An update has been released for the community driven highly enjoyable game Wagic. This brings us to version 0.17.1.

"Notes for this version:

More than 500 new unique cards. Wagic now supports 15400 cards (8700 unique), including cards from Innistrad.
New abilities for card coders. We will update the card Wiki asap with details
A new progress bar in the main menu shows you how far you are from completing the game (unlocking all sets, mods, opponents, etc...)
You can now easily create unlockable mods. If you're interested, check the rules folder, in particular the file awards.dat
A new file system supporting zip files. For users, this change will mostly be transparent, but it should make installing the game easier, as well as installing/uninstalling mods. This should also make it easier for most people to install images. See this thread in the forum for details, especially if you want to create campaigns or mods for the game.
Many bug fixes"

Developer's note:

After long months, I am extremely proud to announce a new release of Wagic, The Homebrew, almost in sync with the release of Scars of Mirrodin (The new expansion of MTG was released a week ago). Let me especially thank Zethfox and Dr.Solomat for this release, they are the ones who pushed the card engine beyond all expectations, and added around 800 new cards, raising the number to more than 11700 playable cards (6300 unique)

What is Wagic?
Is it still necessary to introduce Wagic? Often compared to commercial games for its replay value and quality, Wagic is a heroic fantasy card game, in which you fight as a wizard against the computer. As you win battles, you unlock new game modes and earn credits that allow you to improve your army. Wagic is community driven, entirely customizable (you can create themes, mods, even new rules), available in several languages (Chinese was added in this release by linshier), and open source. It currently runs on the Sony PSP, Windows, and Linux. An N900 version is in the works, and already available on the SVN, thanks to the work of developer DJardin.

Changelog:

More than 800 new unique cards, including cards from Magic 2011 and Scars of Mirrodin. Wagic now allows you to play with more than 11700 units (6300 unique)
New loading screens by Kaioshin
Card engine/parser updates, see list below
Story mode improved (new rewards)
Mulligan (thanks almosthumane)
Support of Chinese language by linshier
Advanced themes by Jeck. Give a try to the "gemstones" theme!
Additional option to pass phases automatically (almosthumane)
Improved deck selection menus (mnguyen)
Support for "tiny crops" images (from slightlymagic.net), recommended for PSP users (better performance)
Too many bug fixes to mention. Thanks to ALL devs!

v0.12.1 · Jun 22, 2010

Developer's note:

Ok, so what's new this time? Well, lots of new cards (more than 700 new unique cards, which brings the total to more than 10000 playable cards - almost 5500 unique), some new graphics for the default theme, and a "Story mode" in Beta Version. I'll talk about the story mode below, but let's start with a full changelog:

More than 700 new cards, including cards from the new extension Rise of the Eldrazi (you'll surely love those "level" cards!). Thanks to Dr. Solomat, Salmelo, and everybody contributing with ideas on the forum!
Additional graphics thanks to Ilya B. (check the cool screenshots above)
Story Mode (Beta)
Keywords/Parser updates: the parser now handles counters (thanks Salmelo, this allows to code quest cards and similar things), this/thisforeach, triggered abilities improvements, upkeep cost and similar
Improved HBL compatibility (you still have to remove the file exception.prx for Wagic to run in HBL)
The shopkeeper has new tasks for you. Get ready for more challenge and more credits! (thanks daddy32)
Various language updates (thanks to abrasax and all translators - full credits should be in the language files)
Countless bug fixes!

v0.11 · Mar 15, 2010

Developer's note:

I'm excited to announce a new version of Wagic today, version 0.11.1. We added so many new cards in this version that the numbers don't make much sense anymore, so you will see that the main menu displays now 2 numbers: the number of cards, and the number of unique cards. Wagic 0.10 had roughly 5100 cards (4000 unique), and Wagic 0.11 ships with around 30 new sets for a total of more than 9300 cards (more than 4700 unique). So if we don't count reprints, that's more than 700 new cards for you to play with!

Changelog:

More than 4000 new cards, of which 700 are unique. Wagic now has around 9400 cards (more than 4700 unique). Thanks to the card coders, especially Dr. Solomat!
New cards database system, which allows to code more cards faster and reduce the number of duplicate bugs (thanks Psyringe)
Filter system in the Shop and in the Deck Editor allow you to efficiently buy new cards and search your collection (thanks Jeck)
Key bindings to customize your keys (thanks Jean)
Simplified translation mechanism for cards
Shop improvements (Mixed boosters, price changes, improved booster flexibility)
New parser keywords: cantBeBlockedBy, power/toughness qualifiers for targets
New tasks in the tasks menu
Internal changes to fix compilation issues on linux 64bits and Mac. Wagic should now compile for these platforms with little work
Added support for HQ pictures on PC platforms

v0.9.1 · Oct 29, 2009

Changelog: * Around 500 new cards. Wagic now allows you to play with more than 3500 cards out of the box. Wagic allows you to play with cards from Zendikar, Magic 2010, and 30 other expansions. This is not counting all the extra content you can get from the forum at Naruto, Final Fantasy, and lots of other user-created sets. * New shop GUI, with original graphics(see the cool screenshots above). Many thanks to Jhotun for the background image! * New user interface inGame. It is highly customizable, check the options. Wagic now has some smooth animations, you’ll love the new manapool! * Deck Statistics in the deck editor now show you how well your deck performs against the AI, and various useful information (average mana cost, etc…) * New Profile and Theme systems to customize your play environment. Check the Jade Theme! Also come to to get new themes! * Various card bug fixes * Deck Editor improved, you can now rename your decks directly in Wagic without an external text editor * Improved card graphics (Thanks J and Jeck) * Parser: new keywords (@damaged, @tapped, deathtouch, initimidate, “other” keyword for targets, “this” keyword for targets, kicker, “X” as part of abilities cost, shuffle * New caching mechanism, no need for you to setup the “size” of your cache anymore, the cache automatically uses as much Ram as possible. * New cool Game manual, check it out, it teaches you how to play Wagic! * Small AI improvements * More than 20 new AI Decks (Thanks Psyringe,Niegen,Abrasax and everyone who contributed) * Added an exception plugin to prevent the PSP from crashing in case of a bug. Instead, you’ll get a blue screen. (Thanks to Sakya at ps2dev)Known issues * Purple Screen of Despair: If the game has a weird purple look and feel at startup, you just got the Purple Screen of Despair. But don’t trash your PSP yet, there’s hope. We are looking for solutions to this problem, and a few techniques can be found here * Blue Screen of Death: We recently added an exception handler to avoid your PSP from badly freezing. If you get a blue screen of death, it’s a bad thing because it means you found a bug in Wagic, but it’s a good thing because your PSP didn’t completely crash (so you don’t have to reboot it, and PSP3000 users know how important it is to not reboot their PSPs)

v0.7.1 · Jun 13, 2009

Changelog: * Wagic now has more than 2100 cards, including 500 new cards from the 10th Edition, Alara Reborn, Shards of Alara, Urza’s saga, Revised, Ice Age, Ravnica, Shadowmoor, Legends…remember that you can get more sets from the community at * Counterspells finally work! Blue decks now get all their power back. Plus, the AI doesn’t complain if you keep counter its spells and play the bad guy :) * Improvements in the Shop: Sets that have more than 80 cards now offer boosters (the minimum was 100 in previous releases), the shop tells you how many cards of a given name you already own, so that you don’t buy more than necessary * New parser keywords: “lord” now works until end of turn for instants and sorceries, fizzle keyword (for counterspells), stack is now a valid zone for targets, library is now a valid zone for targets, damage all, move all, discard (random), deplete, rampage * Zip file support for images. More info here * Translation system. Wagic is now available in french and german (thanks Aco), and, of course, in english. This is experimental, and will be improved depending on the success of this feature. See Res/lang/Readme.txt for more info. If you can translate Wagic in another language, feel free to do so and contact me. Currently this only supports latin 1 languages though, but if a coder wants to dig in and help us with font issues for other languages, let me know. * The main menu shows you various stats about your decks * 4000 cards limitation has been removed. * AI Decks now get a name and a description * Libraries can finally be searched (think Diabolic tutor) * Performance improvements in the Deck editor and the shop for people with huge collections * Sleep mode doesn’t crash the PSP anymore (thanks orine) * Various Bug fixes (Momir Basic crash with too much mana, Shroud for cards in hand or in the graveyard, …) * Cards Bug fixes (Arcanis the Omnipotent, Cancel, Counterspell, Heartcage Giant , Northern Paladin, repulse, Restrain, Shadowfeed, Skyshroud Vampire, Soothing Balm, Spell blast, Strength of unity, …)

v0.4.1 · Feb 11, 2009

from WilLoW:t’s been a while! For people who somehow got used to the “monthly release” rate we had so far, sorry if we made you wait, but it’s for the greater good.As you probably know by now, I got a Cease and Decist order from Wizards of the Coast’s lawyers. Put aside my personal feelings that Wagic is doing nothing but good to this company, I respect their work and copyright laws, so we had to temporarily remove all downloads from the site. But fear not, we are back from the graveyard with a new release, which, unlike what I had announced, is packed with new cool features that I think you’ll enjoy. The most obvious change in this version is that no copyrighted content is included in this release. This means no cool card thumbnails, but Wagic of course still allows you to put your own card pictures in the appropriate folders to play with nice graphics. If you need help on how to add your own card pictures to the game, the forum might help you. If not, google is your friend, I guess. Now for the good new features: * More than 300 new cards, including cards from Tempest, Portal, and the new Conflux Expansion. Many thanks to Dr. Solomat for his work on Tempest and Portal. This means Wagic now officially has more than 1000 cards you can play with, not counting all the ones you can create by yourself (sky’s the limit, yeah!). As usual, check the forums for more cards! * Wagic now handles Token generators such as the Hive * Sacrifice has been added (I know you’ve been waiting for this one for a long time!) * New ability keyword: cloud * Lots of improvements in the card parser, new keywords, etc…. Cards such as Siege-gang Commander, Bad Moon, or the hive can now be 100% coded in the _cards.dat files without having to know one single line of C++ (sacrifice, token generators, “lord” ability improvement, multiple abilites for one cost, moveTo,…) * Font fixes * New cool menus * Lots of improvements for cards shown in “text” mode * Too many bug fixes to tellMany thanks to coders, card creators, and beta testers of version 0.4.0!If you enjoy Wagic, please spread the word! We are always looking for new developers, modders, card creators, or new fans of the game :)

v0.3.1 · Dec 9, 2008

from wololo:First of all, many thanks to Abrasax and J for their help, this new release wouldn’t be so full of new stuff without them. And thanks of course to the beta testers. Strangely enough, except a few card bugs here and there, most of the reports we got were “feature” requests (well, to some extent, some of them can be considered as bugs too…), so my guess is that this release should be quite stable. So what do we have for you here ? Well, first of all, you’ll probably notice that the big jpegs are not in this release, only thumbnails. The game still handles the big pictures, of course, but you’ll have to find them yourself. The main reason for that is bandwidth, as this decision will allow us to put far more cards in the future, for a smaller zip file. It also allows us to put music and sfx in the package for a smaller total size. Oh yes, music is finally here, and a few sounds as well, so that Wagic looks (sounds ?) more like an actual video game now (the soundtrack is by Celestial Aeon Project). Overall, lots of new customizable contents have been added, and the card parser has been improved, which means more cards for you and less code for me.Oh, I almost forgot, around 250 new cards (Wagic now officially supports around 700 cards, not counting the hundreds more available on the forum), new icons and a new logo. And thanks to CrazyRazor for the avatars, that I included in the release.enjoy a few screenshots and videos. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll be on holiday during the Christmas season, so don’t expect many updates in the weeks to come.Changelog: * Added 240 new cards, including the ones from the Ice Age Mod by Abrasax, and cards from Shadowmoor * (PSP) Mp3 Playback fixed. (note : Mp3s can’t have an ID3V2 tag) * Added SFX (check the Res/sound/sfx/README.txt file for customization) * Shop Memory leak fixed. Going repeatedly to the shop should not crash the game anymore * The deck editor now has 3 scrolling speeds. You can switch by using the “select” button * (internal) Input system updated * (Windows) it is now possible to resize the window and play fullscreen * Added an avatar directory for the AI. Check Res/ai/baka/avatars/README.txt for customization ! * The cards file parser has been upgraded, you can now add more cards by yourself o new keywords : lord , life ,foreach, bury all, destroy all, @, draw,… o target mechanism updated (attacker, blocker, colors, tapped, abilities…) o more info here * The AI should play Wrath of God and other such cards more “wisely” * You can now choose your opponent based on its deck name when you play against the AI. Difficulty is computed based on your victories against the AI with a specific deck. * (sources/internal): you can now play the game on Linux (if you compile it from the sources) (thanks J !) * New mana icons, new logo * Fixed a graveyard bug that made the game crash * A few ingame speed improvementsCards - Bugs where fixed for the following cards: * Lava Axe * Control magic * Circle of protection (all) * Zombie Master * Spark elemental * Righteousness * Ascendant Evincar * Nightmare (10E) * Terror * Wrath of god * Some fixes for various Ice Age cardsKnown Bugs * Brass Man and Paralyze tend to crash the game. Please don’t use them * Hybrid mana cost is not shown in the “text” version of the card pictures * Volume control does not work. Sound/Music is either on or off.

v0.1.0 · Oct 9, 2008

From WiLoW:Due to various issues*, I’m releasing this version a bit earlier than I expected.Thank you to the beta testers who sent bug reports, thank you to the ones who didn’t have the time to send them, but were preparing a list : your work was not useless, you can already submit your reports on the bugs page :)Since the beta version was released, the following bugs have been solved: * Mana abilities of special lands such as Cascade Bluffs * Problems when Ascendant Evincar and Goblin King are in play at the same time * Problems with wither sending a creatures to the graveyard several times * Volcanic Eruption * Mana ability for creatures such as Llanowar elves or bird of paradise is now subject to summoning sickness * Shop bug when buying a booster/starter after playingPlus, of course, compared to the initial alpha, the changes that were already mentionned in the beta release: * The AI can now use a few spells with one target, such as lightning bolt, or a few auras, etc… * Some graphical improvements in the game screen (shadows, background, targetting…) * Added between 150 and 200 new cards from 10th Edition, Eventide, and Shards of Alara (ok, I’m cheating, some of these cards are just available in Revised with a different design) * Improved the _cards.dat configuration files, allows a bit more scripting without recompiling (destroy, bury, damage,…) * Added new card abilities : Persist(untested),haste,Exalted,Legendary(Untested), Wither * Now possible to play without the card pictures (I plan to do releases without the pictures in the future, for bandwidth and legal reasons) * You can now sell cards in the deck editor with the X button (not extensively tested). Do not forget to save before going back to the main menu, even if you didn’t update your deck. * The shop now shows you the contents of the booster/starter you just bought (not very usable yet). Click X to close it ! * (Internal/windows version): Added a small test suite for automated tests * Hybrid Mana cost * (Internal): Counters system. No cool graphical representation yet. * Bug Fixes: * o Auras should now go to the graveyard if their target goes to the graveyard o First strike/double strike should now work correctly o Activated abilities : can’t use activated abilities with a Tap symbol for creatures that have summoning sickness (except in some specific cases where the bug remains, such as mana producers) o Birds of Paradise: can now add green mana o Animate Dead o Drain Life o Goblin Balloon Brigade now doesn’t have automatic flying o Keldon Warlord’s power/toughness decrease if a creature is put into a graveyard o Paralyze is now put into the graveyard if its target is put into a graveyard
