v2007-04-07 · Apr 7, 2007
Homebrew developer mcdongle dropped by QJ forums today and released an updated version of pet project pspWeather. Some of you might not be familiar with this as the updates for the program comes rather rarely. Anyway, the application basically is a network software that lets you view the weather in your locality using the PlayStation Portable (PSP).
During the last release, some users noticed a bug within the program when using it on any OE firmware. According to mcdongle, this concerns the TinyXML bugthat has been fixed now. Additional improvements to pspWeather v2.0b-20070407 are as follows:
- Additions: Added standard and metric units when using the pspWeather "keyboard"
- Bug Fixes/Changes: Fixed an issue where pspWeather did not run correctly unless it was located in /PSP/GAME/
But before you give pspWeather a try, the developer has a few reminders for you to ensure the safety of your beloved handhelds. According to mcdongle, the program itself doesn't have an application for cleaning out data so be sure to clean your directory every so often.
As of now, the application can only show up to 10 wireless access points and mcdongle promised that this will be improved in the next releases And just like in all homebrew games and applications out there, never exit or power down or even think of removing the memory stick while the memory stick indicator is stil on.
v2.0 · Feb 23, 2007
Well, it's been a long time since we last heard of PSP homebrew applications developer, mcdongle. But going through our forums, we found out that he is back and this time, he is releasing a revamped version of pspWeather - now in v2.0 (beta). Basing from the app's name and the screenshot we have for you, you might already have an idea what this app does.
pspWeather is a network software that allows you to view the local weather conditions via your PSP. In the last time that we talked about mcdongle's creation, he has released the source code for this app and other devs tried their hand on it. Anyhow, mcdongle mentions that this release is intended for FW1.5 and these are the new features for this version:
- Semi-theme support. I hope to make this much better at a later date (PLEASE do not change the font file)
- An interface to get weather without reading location codes from the configuration file
- 3 day forecasts
- DHCP support
- New config file in XML format
Bug Fixes/Changes
- Too many to list =)
It's nice to know that he is back in the scene after a long absence and we could only hope that he continues with the updates.
v1.06 · Jul 27, 2006
Zx-81 s has released a new version of the PSPWeather homebrew application for the PSP. PSPWeather is a simple piece of network software that allows you to view the local weather conditions on your PSP. It was developed by McDongle a year ago, but since then Zx-81 has worked his magic on it, adding new features and bug fixes. Nuclear fallout couldn't stop Zx-81, he's even moving out of emulator territory now! Don't worry, he can multi-task and is still working on his amazing PSPVBA GameBoy Advance Emulator for the PSP. Back to PSPWeather, here's the changelog:
- Ported to new SDK
- Fixed DHCP issue (work fine on 1.5FW now!)
- Many bug fixes including code cleanning, memory leak fix etc ...
- Added a simple startup icon
These new additions bring this year-old piece of homebrew back into the homebrew scene of 2006. Zx likes to make programs that let people reminisce over the past, and this is one of them. You can easily tell - it had issues with DHCP working on firmware 1.5 - I haven't seen bug issues specific for 1.5 in ages! The original release thread for McDongle's PSPWeather v1.05 can be found here.
A firmware 1.5 binary version and the source code is included in the download.
