Official PSP firmware 6.61, from Sony's update server

Sony's PSP support page is gone, but its update server still serves 6.61: one file for the Go, one for every other model. Copied to the memory stick, it updates the PSP like the official download did.

For: a PSP on official firmware below 6.60 · updated Oct 29, 2026 · not sure? check your PSP

Before you start

  • Charge the battery fully and keep the AC adaptor connected, as Sony says. Do not switch off during the update.
  • Use the Go file only on a PSP Go, and the other one on every other model.

Steps

  1. On a PC, download the file for your model and check its MD5 against the table below.
  2. On the memory stick (on a Go: the M2 card or the system storage), make the folders PSP/GAME/UPDATE and put the file there, named EBOOT.PBP.
  3. On the PSP: Game, Memory Stick (or System Storage on a Go), run the update and follow the screens.
  4. Then install ARK-5: ARK-5.
