GBA-Rush changelog
v1.4.3 · Nov 2, 2026
GBA Rush PSP 1.4.3
This release fixes a Pokemon trade that could stop for good and makes
linked games other than Pokemon, such as Mario Kart: Super Circuit, faster
and much smoother between two PSPs.
Changes
- A Pokemon trade no longer stops for good at "Please wait" when one PSP freezes for a moment or the radio drops out as the trade screen opens.
- Games that exchange each serial word need about one datagram per frame in each direction: the receiving PSP learns again how far apart transfers come, the real replies ride with the next announcement, and both PSPs report their clock and acknowledge less often.
- The PSP that clocks transfers finishes them as soon as the other PSP's announcement arrives, asks it to answer at once while it waits, and no longer resends before the other PSP could acknowledge.
- During such a link the emulator pauses long enough for the PSP network stack to send each datagram, skips a pause late frames no longer need, runs at the lowest priority, and draws at least every other frame whatever the frameskip setting, which applies again once the link closes.
- Opening the Performance page no longer crashes the emulator with a blue "Reserved instruction" screen.
- Performance reports show correct frame counts and durations on a PSP.
- Session logs record the frames run and drawn during a link.
Upgrade
Replace EBOOT.PBP and exception.prx on both PSPs. Both PSPs need 1.4.3
for the best results. Keep the BIOS, ROMs, saves, states, cheat files, box
art and configuration files. Back up both saves before trading.
v1.4.2 · Nov 1, 2026
GBA Rush PSP 1.4.2
This release keeps linked games other than Pokemon, such as Mario Kart:
Super Circuit, connected over Wi-Fi and makes them faster.
Changes
- Games that report a link error as soon as the cable goes quiet, such as Mario Kart: Super Circuit, stay connected: the PSP that receives transfers follows the sender's timing as on a real cable.
- The two PSPs no longer take turns emulating during such a link: the emulator pauses briefly after each datagram so the PSP network stack sends it, and runs at a lower priority.
- The PSP that clocks the transfers stops waiting for replies the other PSP announced in advance, once hundreds of announcements in a row have matched the real replies.
- Session logs record the shortest round trip, the time spent pausing for the network stack, early replies and any announcement that turned out wrong.
Upgrade
Replace EBOOT.PBP and exception.prx on both PSPs. Keep the BIOS, ROMs,
saves, states, cheat files, box art and configuration files. Back up both
saves before trading.
v1.4.1 · Oct 31, 2026
GBA Rush PSP 1.4.1
This release fixes the lag that built up in the Cable Club when two PSPs play
Pokemon over Wi-Fi.
Changes
- In the Cable Club rooms the two PSPs wait for each other's frames like a real cable, so the delay stays near one Wi-Fi round trip plus a few frames instead of growing after every stall.
- Pokemon games no longer pause on the other PSP's game clock, which stalled both consoles after every radio dropout.
- A linked PSP that runs late still leaves the Wi-Fi stack time to deliver data.
- Session logs count the datagrams sent, refused and dropped.
- The link protocol changed: both PSPs need 1.4.1.
Upgrade
Replace EBOOT.PBP and exception.prx on both PSPs. Keep the BIOS, ROMs,
saves, states, cheat files, box art and configuration files. Back up both
saves before trading.
v1.4.0 · Oct 31, 2026
GBA Rush PSP 1.4.0
This release rebuilds the link cable over PSP ad-hoc Wi-Fi and adds
fast-forward profiles.
Changes
- The link cable picks its technique from the two games. Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen, in any combination, emulate the wire locally on each PSP and relay only the games' link frames, so the Cable Club runs at full speed. Every other game exchanges each serial word.
- A reliable channel repeats unacknowledged messages in every datagram, and the ad-hoc worker runs above the emulator thread.
- The link menu shows the technique and the round trip. A game must be loaded before connecting.
- Modern, Classic and Custom fast-forward profiles, per-game overrides and optional accelerated audio.
- Runtime, renderer, ROM paging and text fixes listed in the changelog.
Upgrade
Replace EBOOT.PBP and exception.prx on both PSPs. Keep the BIOS, ROMs,
saves, states, cheat files, box art and configuration files. Back up both
saves before trading.
v1.3.0 · Aug 21, 2026
GBA Rush PSP 1.3.0
This release improves runtime diagnostics, menu clarity, configuration safety,
audio lifecycle, and renderer dispatch.
Changes
- The main menu is grouped by task and each setting has contextual help.
- Long menus scroll without covering the guide or button footer.
- Diagnostics can collect live performance metrics and save a bounded report.
- Renderer selection moves out of the scanline hot path.
- Audio uses a consistent PSP SRC-channel lifecycle across normal play, fast-forward, suspend, resume, and shutdown.
- Versioned global and per-game configuration writes retain valid settings and recover from interrupted replacement.
Upgrade
Replace EBOOT.PBP and exception.prx. Keep the BIOS, ROMs, saves, states,
cheat files, box art, and configuration files.
Verification
Host, sanitizer, source, and package checks pass with PSPDEV v20260801. The
release candidate was tested with Pokemon FireRed on a physical PSP-2000.
Other PSP models and the wider game benchmark set remain unverified.
v1.2.0 · Aug 21, 2026
GBA Rush PSP 1.2.0
This release adds adaptive sharp fullscreen output for the PSP display.
Changes
16:9 Autostarts with two-pass sharp scaling and falls back to nearest fullscreen scaling when sustained timing misses are detected.16:9 Sharpkeeps the two-pass path selected manually.- Fullscreen presentation overlaps PSP GE work with the remaining GBA VBlank and avoids redundant framebuffer clears.
- Resume rebuilds transient video state and synchronizes the first frame.
- The FPS overlay reports the active
SHARPorCRISPautomatic level.
Upgrade
Replace EBOOT.PBP and exception.prx. Keep the BIOS, ROMs, saves, states,
cheat files, and configuration files. Existing installations retain their
saved scale mode; select 16:9 Auto once to use the new renderer.
Verification
The adaptive policy passes host and sanitizer tests. The release builds with
PSPDEV v20260801. The new renderer was started successfully on a physical PSP
before publication.
v1.1.0 · Aug 21, 2026
GBA Rush PSP 1.1.0
This release adds two-player GBA link cable emulation over local PSP ad-hoc
Wi-Fi and fixes the suspend and resume lockup found after 1.0.0.
Highlights
- Normal 8-bit, Normal 32-bit, and Multiplayer 16-bit GBA serial modes.
- Create, join, connection status, peer details, and disconnect controls in all five interface languages.
- Versioned packet framing, synchronized transfer barriers, heartbeats, timeouts, and clean failure handling.
- Foreground recovery of audio, ROM access, saves, and link state after every suspend cycle.
- Finite sound and ad-hoc worker shutdown deadlines.
- Original diagnostic ROM sources and expanded host, sanitizer, malformed traffic, timeout, and stress coverage.
Upgrade
Replace EBOOT.PBP and exception.prx in PSP/GAME/GBARushPSP/. Keep your
existing BIOS, ROMs, saves, states, cheat lists, and configuration files. Back
up save data before updating.
Both PSP systems should run this same emulator build before creating or joining
a link session. Savestates and fast-forward are disabled while that session is
open.
Compatibility limits
The link implementation is limited to two PSP systems and GBA cable modes. It
does not emulate the GBA Wireless Adapter, UART, General Purpose, JoyBus,
GameCube link, multiboot, or internet relay. Broad compatibility and
performance testing across two physical PSP systems and the commercial game
catalog has not yet been completed.
Download verification
The release includes GBA-Rush-PSP-1.1.0.zip and a matching .sha256 file.
