fMSX PSP changelog

v3.4.1 · Oct 1, 2007

Hot on the heels of an earlier update on the NeoPop PSP homebrew emulator, uberjack has also updated another emulator project: fMSX PSP. The coder has bumped up the MSX emulator to its 3.4.1 version with the following in its changelog:

  • fMSX upgraded to version 3.4
  • Changes include fixes to the Z80 CPU emulation

For those who are unfamiliar with this homebrew, it's actually a port of the fMSX emulator. Which means, it'll allow you to play the classic Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on your PSP (screenshot above)! Before you get carried away though, make sure you take a look at the readme file included. It's got all the info you need: installation, compiling, controls, the works.

v3.3.25 · Aug 24, 2007

Got that taste for old-school gaming on your PSP? Developer uberjack has just announce the latest build of the fMSX-PSP emulator.

This application, in case you're wondering is a PSP-based port of the fMSX v3.1 emulator for Microsoft's MSX standardized home computer architecture from the 80s. Version 3.3.25 apparently carries just one major tweak:

  • This update adds the ability to write changes to (uncompressed) disk images (see section on Disk Writing in the documentation for details and warnings).

Full usage details and other important information can be found the readme included in the file bundle. Make sure to thank uberjack for the release via the application's original site.

v3.3.2 · Jul 28, 2007

Here's some good news for retro gaming fans. We recently found out that uberjack has released version 3.3.2 of fMSX-PSP, his MSX emulation software for the PSP.

According to the changelog for the application, one of the big changes retro gamers will be excited about is the 60 percent increase in rendering speed, with MSX2 titles running at full speed when played at 222MHz. In any case, below are the two main changes for fMSX-PSP v3.3.2:

  • 60% increase in rendering speed--MSX2 titles run at 100% speed at 222MHz
  • Fixed buffer overflow error affecting units without a battery (thanks to Alpha Beta for tracking it down)

In any case, we encourage you to give the app a try. Just remember to check the readme before using the app, alright? Enjoy!

Interested in a bit retro-gaming for your PSP? Homebrew developer Akop Karapetyan (aka uberjack) dropped by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to announce the release of the latest version of fMSX-PSP. For the guys wondering what this application is, it's a PSP-based emulator of Microsoft's MSX standardized home computer architecture from the 80s. fMSX-PSP is further based on the fMSX v3.1 emulator, and uses a Graphics Utility Toolkit (GU) for rendering.

As for the emulator's latest improvements:

  • Added menu navigation options - select from US PSP navigation (X confirms, O cancels) or Japanese PSP navigation (O confirms, X cancels—also used by
  • most homebrew emulators)
  • Added RAM/VRAM adjustment options
  • Added HBlank/VBlank period selection (PAL/NTSC)
  • Added MSX model selection (MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+)
  • Improved accuracy of frames-per-second counter
  • User interface improvements
  • fMSX updated to version 3.2
  • Rendering speed increase, switched to 15bit color
  • Various bug fixes
