Custom XMB plugin changelog

v2.5 · Sep 28, 2007

There's a new version of poisonhzkj's Custom XMB Plugin available. For the uninitiated, CXMB is a custom firmware plugin that allows for easier customization of the Sony PlayStation Portable's XMB.

Anyway, this new release bumps up CXMB to version 2.5. It has 3.71M33 support, albeit to a limited extent. According to tests done by QJ.NET Forums member madsoul, the only things you can change with CXMB v2.5 without causing your PSP to hang are the background and the wave.

QJ.NET Forums member NorthernFusion, meanwhile, reports that some backgrounds mess with sub icons. NorthernFusion also noted that testing was done using 3.60 custom RCOs. You can find out more by visiting

PSP Homebrew - Image 1Here's a quick update for poisonhzkj's Custom CMB plugin. Custom XMB plugin is a Custom Firmware plugin that makes it easier for PSP owners to cutomize their XMB.

According to the developer, it makes no changes to the system files in the PSP's Flash0. It instead redirects the resource path file to ms0: by Hooking some funtions and doing some memory patch.

Here's what's new in this update:

  • fix the problem that logo shows upon gameboot cant be clear.

For usage and installation instructions, please read this previous post on CXMB as the download still doesn't have a readme file. You can also learn more at the developer's site ( Also, even though the Custom XMB plugin is supposedly flashless, please be very careful when using this app so you don't brick your PSP.

Remember the SCEP-XMB plugin that homebrew developer poisonhzkj has been working on? We'll be taking a break from that particular homebrew to make room for this other promising project in the works - the Custom XMB plugin 1.0, or CXMB for short.

According to |-Anubis-| over at the QJ.Net Forums, this plugin "once enabled in the vsh.txt, will allow the use of custom RCOs from the memory stick instead of ones flashed to flash0." What this means in layman's terms is that this plugin will allow PSP owners to customize their XMB without having to flash their unit. CXMB is built to work for custom PSP firmware 3.40 OE.

Given the file bundle's lack of a readme, we strongly advise users to pass by |-Anubis-|'s thread over at our QJ.Net Forums, and poisonhzkj's site (the source link) for installation and usage instruction. On a last note, CXMB's author further states that the plugin is part of an ongoing XMB theme controller under development - expect later versions of SCEP to come equipped with a plugin based on CXMB. The bundle also includes Calabi Spheres XMB Icons theme
