CPS2PSP changelog
v2.3.1 · Oct 29, 2007
Those who love using emulators on their Sony PlayStation Portable have definitely a lot to look forward to today. Homebrew coder NJ has just released new builds for his projects CPS1PSP, CPS2PSP, MVSPSP, and NCDZPSP. This brings all the emulators up to version 2.3.1.
While we really can't get anything from the Japanese texts on NJ's personal webpage, we believe that these builds are still on their initial stages because NJ has marked them as "developer's version". CPS1PSP and CPS2PSP emulate Capcom Play System 1 and 2 games on the PSP.
On the other hand, MVSPSP and NCDZPSP allow users to play Neo Geo MVS and Neo GEO CD titles on the Sony handheld. Take all the necessary precautions in using these programs to avoid any problems. If you need more information, click on the Source link below.
It should take you to NJ's release page for the emulators. Take note that you will need an online language engine to understand some of the details posted there.
v2.3.0 · Oct 26, 2007
With the month of october ending in a couple of days, it looks like developer NJ has decided to do some last-minute updating. The coder has just released version 2.3.0 of all of his homebrew emulators (CPS2PSP, CPS1PSP, MVSPSP, and NCDZPSP), along with a new set of updates.
For those asking, CPS1PSP and CPS2PSP are emulators that allow you to play games originally run on the Capcom PlaySystem 1 and 2 arcade boards on your PSP. MVSPSP will run games originally meant for the NeoGeo MVS, while NCDZPSP will runs games from the Neo Geo CD console. Moving on, here's NJ's latest changelog (translated via Babelfish) since version 2.2.3:
- Sound processing is modified. The Q sound of CPS becomes output in 24KHz fixing, it is not possible to modify frequency. (API which has not been recorded before the header of PSPSDK is used. Referring todetails the forumof PS2Dev. )
- Deleting the option of luster effect from CPS2PSP.
- Jointly using software rendering with MVSPSP and NCDZPSP. Load reduction of line scroll and the like.
- Attendant upon description above, renewing romcnv_mvs.exe for MVSPSP. Being there is no compatibility in cash file, please recreate.
- In addition, has not been remembered how many experimental modification which?
We advice would-be users to be extra careful in handling these emulators, given that NJ's readmes are all in Japanese. You may want to get a Japanese literate friend to help in the installation process. Enjoy the download!
v2.2.3 · Oct 12, 2007
Homebrew developer NJ has just rolled out new builds for some of his PSP-compatible emulators CPS1PSP and CPS2PSP bringing them up to version 2.2.3. The first one lets users run Capcom PlayStation 1 games on the Sony handheld while the second one is for titles released on Capcom PlayStation 2.
We translated the changelog for version 2.2.3 using an online language engine and listed them down below. Take note that some of these changes also apply to upcoming builds for emulators MVSPSP (Neo Geo MVS) and NCDZPSP (Neo Geo CD):
- MVSPSP and NCDZPSP timer process once before to return, MAME 0.119 based on the change in the modification. UNIVERSE BIOS is the same as in previous work now.
- MVSPSP NCDZPSP the rendering process and made changes to the old (missing was because the source is found). A more accurate rendering will be a 000 - lo.lo is required.
- CPS1PSP ROM loads using the array size is too small a part of the game is to successfully query bug fixes.
- CPS1PSP the above corrections, the psp - gcc - 4.1.0 compile because a slightly faster.
- Homehook.prx process modifications. Home button reading interval to increase the load losses.
- Many other changes.
Download links for version 2.2.3 of MVSPSP and NCDZPSP are still not yet available because it seems that NJ is still working on them. Users of CPS1PSP and CPS2PSP, however, can now update to the latest versions. Be sure that you know what you're doing when installing these programs on your PSP to avoid any problems.
v2.2.2 · Oct 8, 2007
It looks like emulation fans have something nice in store for them today. NJ has released a new version of all of his emulators, with a couple of tweaks for each of the emulators that fans should find interesting.
Without further ado, here's a google translation of the notes NJ has added onto his previous release:
The modification point with ver.2.2.2:
- Way it draws UI at everything GU, modification.
- English integrating the binary of edition and Japanese edition. When the indicatory language of PSP itself is Japanese, with Japanese, the other than of that is English.
- With PSP-2000 the Home button was made enabled. The time before you open the menu similarly with the Home button.
- Because the clear range of VRAM when initializing by mistake was, correction. Whether this was unstable with cause.
- CPS2PSP/MVSPSP: When with PSP-2000 it sleeps, because there were times when portion of graphics is destroyed correction.
- CPS1PSP: When it compiles with psp-gcc-4.1.0, because it cannot start [supamatsusuruboma], way psp-gcc-4.0.2 is used, modification.
- CPS1PSP: Because there was the ROM set which has forgotten to correspond with final fighting spirit correction.
- CPS1PSP: Because there was a problem in drawing of the stars layer, correction.
- MVSPSP/NCDZPSP: Interruption processing of picture modification to up-to-date MAME wind.
- In addition detailed bug correction and the like.
In addition to these helpful notes given by NJ, you would also best be served by being very careful in your installation of the emulators, as there isn't an English translation of the readme files in sight. In any case, we're sure you'll get a kick out of trying these new emulator builds out. Good luck with installation, and enjoy your games!
v2.2.0 · Sep 29, 2007
QJ.NET forum member Ranmax09 just informed us over at our PSP Development Forum that homebrew coder NJ has just released a new build for CPS2PSP bringing it up to version 2.2.0. The most exciting thing about this build is that it was made exclusively for use with PSP Slim & Lite and CFW 3.71 M33.
For those not familiar with the homebrew emulation scene, CPS2PSP is a program that emulates Capcom Play System 2 games on the PlayStation Portable. It should be remembered that the version before this release was ported by Ahman to be used with PSP units running on 3.xx.
NJ reported that CPS2PSP v2.2.0 is just a test version and that several additions will be made in future releases. If you don't know how to use this program, it would be wise to refer to the forum link below to discuss it with other users.
v1.8.4 · Feb 7, 2007
The past couple of months have indeed been crazy for the homebrew scene, what with all the exciting stuff that's been coming our way. While we absolutely don't mind being bombarded with PSX emulations, getting updates on other emulators ain't so bad as well. Especially if it's from someone whom we all thought has already dropped the project to tinker with some other bigger thing.
That someone we're referring to here is none other than the beloved NJ, and that project would be the CPS2PSP. Yeah, for a while back there, we sure thought he's done with it. But apparently, and fortunately so, he isn't. In fact, he's just released his CPS2PSP v1.8.4, and you can get it right here. Actually, there are two files for you to feast on: there's the regular zip file, and then there's the Ad Hoc zip file.
Now, Google translate has shown some rather interesting stuff from the translated page. Here's an excerpt:
About one month PSP had not touched, but the experiment which is transplanted to Windows/Linux privately with SDL correction of 1.66 bugs which with the process which does are discovered and, taking in the result of drawing speed improvement experiment of the line scroll which has become vague, you adjusted lastly. As for CPS2PSP, because the analysis of CPS2 is advanced with MAME, also cryptographic cancellation algorithm at 0.111u5 point in time is taken in.
Furthermore, because the intention which reopens the development with PSP it is not, please acknowledge beforehand.
- Because only the binary which does not do kxploit it includes, when it executes with FW1.5, please use the installation utility for PSP.
- Because the down grader of FW3.03 was released, it deleted the user mode edition which does not have meaning.
Right, you certainly can count on Google to have some decent translation...Anyways, if there's anyone out there in the know, please feel free to correct the translation. Oh, and if you want to check out the full translated page from NJ's site, just visit the QJ site and there you'll find the Read link, which will lead you to the translated page.
v1.66 · Dec 27, 2006
To everyone who has been following NJ's work on the CPS1PSP, CPS2PSP, and MVSPSP, then you should know that one of our favorite Japanese devs has just released the last and final versions of his emulators, just after releasing the source for his previous version. However, this also means that this might be the end of the road for him when it comes to emulator development. As he has noted on his own website,
This homepage is closed.
I wish to express my gratitude to the people who reported on the bugs up to now.
The account of this homepage is deleted on January 10. Please download these files till then.
The sound test of MVSPSP was deleted from the source code of the latest version (Because the sound emulation was changed). If necessary, please download the source code of 20061222(CPS1,CPS2 1.64 / MVS 1.63).
Aww. At least he will always be remembered as the guy who brought the Capcom Play System 1 and 2 to PSPs everywhere. In the meantime, he has also released the source for all of his work for anyone who may be interested in picking up where he left off.
v1.61 · Dec 13, 2006
When we say NJ is hardworking, we really mean it. Just yesterday, we reported on his CPS2PSP update, but waddya know, he came up with yet another update to his project. Isn't that great or what?
For those who aren't in the know, CPS2PSP is a Capcom Play System emulator specifically made for the PSP. It's created by Japanese dev NJ, who, as I said earlier, has been updating it on a regular basis.
If you're wondering what does v1.61 has to offer, check out the notes made by NJ himself (which we got from his site). Do note that this is just a rough translation made by Google, so if you have something better, we'd sure appreciate it if you'll give us a heads-up:
- X-MEN VS. The floor being destroyed with Street, Fighter after falling, the picture normally
- Correcting the bug which has stopped being indicated.
- Because perhaps as for big bug you think, that it is not, renewal of binary temporarily with this end?
- If it seems that it cannot correspond to the new game, possibility of end is large this way, is.
v1.60 · Dec 12, 2006
NJ (yep, I'm pertaining to the oh-so hardworking emulator extraordinaire) just made another update to his Capcom emulator, CPS2PSP. Now it is bumped up to v 1.60, and here's what he has to say about it:
- It was the schedule which renewal of binary does not do for a while, but romcnv_cps2.Because exe is renewed,It compiles in order to avoid confusion.
- Non compressed cash data arrangement inside the file was optimized.
- Because 8 there is no compatibility, when the non compressed cash file is used,Please do again to draw up once more. Concerning the type of the non compressed cash file, Perhaps there is no modification above this.
- In regard to CPS1PSP and MVSPSP, with modification of specification inside as for renewal of the source as for doing.
- It is, but because in the future it does not renew binary, please compile with each one.
Okay, maybe it's more like what Google translate has to say, but we know you guys are more intelligent than that, so cough up those translations and enlighten us more about NJ's new creation.
v1.51 · Dec 9, 2006
(Continued from MVSPSP 1.51-related text)
But this isn't the last we'll hear of NJ. Jungle-Cat also informs us that the guy's also released an update to his Capcom-centric CPS2PSP - also v1.51. He's also gone out and released the source codes to his three emulators - CPS1-and-2PSP and MVSPSP, (1.51.1), which means that others can get to tinkering with each. Okay, again the Readme texts are encoded in Japanese, and absent that language support for our word processors, we'll go with what NJ has to say in is site about the new CPS2PSP:
When the ZIP data compressed file is used, you can use those of the time before that way, but because as for the non data compressed file type is modified, please do again to draw up. Please refer to readme_cps2.txt of converter. MAME abolishing the XOR table, if it becomes completely the cryptographic cancellation with CHD, because it cannot correspond with PSP, above this perhaps renewal it is not. Temporarily in the future how it becomes, watchful waiting.
v2006-12-05 · Dec 5, 2006
We were planning on making a Justin Timberlake reference for this article, but we realized it was a lot tougher than it seemed, so let's keep it straight. NJ's released yet another version of his emulator programs, as well as a bugfix to the source codes.
For those who haven't heard of it, CPS1PSP and CPS2PSP are game emulators for the Capcom Play System 1 and 2 lines of arcade titles. MVSPSP, on the other hand, plays NeoGeo games.
Earlier versions of the emulators had varying problems with lag and sound quality which, little by little, were alleviated with each new release. Now it seems that these latest versions are Santa's way of saying Merry Christmas to programmers, as the lag seems to have disappeared.
As far as we can tell from the translations of the text, NJ realized that unzipping the cache files of games into a folder with the same name would basically remove almost all the lag in playing any of the said games. Yes folks, that means near-perfect emulation for all three programs... at the cost of using up more space on your PSP.
He's also released a bugfix to the source code, so if you feel like dissecting the information and giving him some feedback on his webpage, feel free to do so. You'll need Japanese language support on your PC to read his readme files, but you should be able to translate them to the net once you've done so. If you guys know Japanese, then a faithful translation to his readme files would be much appreciated. We've included both regular and Kernel Mode versions of his apps, which you can download below. Enjoy your games!
v1.01 · Sep 25, 2006
Four reasons why you need to learn Japanese:
a) Learning another foreign language in general, is and makes you look cool.
b) You get to read mangas in their full original glory.
c) You don't need subtitles for all those zany anime shows you just can't get enough of.
d) You can make a better translation of this:
Unless roms there is a cache directory in the same class as the directory, becoming not be able to start.Because it was, correction. In the same way as the time before cache directory directly under the cps2psp directory only you use. Kernel Mode it seems that it becomes not be able to end why edition with Home, but compiling. When it does again to do, the pattern which is repaired. Cause is unclear.
The cryptic paragraph above is just one of the many notes NJ has for his nifty emu, CPS2PSP. We're sure there's a lot more in his readme, but chances are, it's in Japanese too. And if any of you guys already has a firm grasp on the language is are willing to translate the devs' updates as well the readme file, then by all means, let us know. We really appreciate any kind of help you guys give us.
And if the four reasons we already gave aren't enough, then these booth babes may probably convince you more to take Nihonggo 101.
v1.0 · Sep 22, 2006
A few weeks after NJ released the last beta version of his newest conquest, the CPS2PSP emulator. He has finally unleashed the fruits of his labor with the first ever version of the CPS2PSP, and no he has not debunked rumors that he is an advanced supercomputer and not a live, human being. He just doesn't have the time for that for he's just so busy perfecting this emulator.
But regardless of his real identity, we think that everyone will agree with us when we say that this guy churns out amazing emulators. NJ also released a kernel mode version of CPS2PSP ver.1.0, but before we go there, let's first focus our attention to the changelog.
Changelog:
- romcnv.exe was renewed to ver.5. Referring to details converter/readme.txt.
- The mask processing of sfa2 and progear re-correction.
- Correcting the mask processing of the opening demonstration of sfa3.
- Correcting the trouble which the character name of msh is indicated to the rear of the character.
- Because with mmatrix it has frozen after the name entry, correction.
- Decreasing the size of cash file of mmatrix.
- Correcting the mask processing of the ending of dimahoo.
- The prayer number of people which are set with [sabisumeniyu], value of the coin input port just in the input button
- Way it reflects, correction.
- The specification of zipname.dat a little modification.
- Empty memory approximately 1MB increase. (As for Kernel Mode edition approximately 1.5MB increase)
- Initial value of AUTO Flameskip modification to OFF.
We have to admit that our Japanese is useless, so if someone could hook all us up with a translated readme.txt, that would be really nice. Going back to the CPS2PSP ver.1.0 kernel mode, NJ mentioned some info that eLoader users should take note of. When you're using this under the TIFF loader, you should add the text below to the appropriate file.

v2006-08-04 · Aug 4, 2006
CPS 2 is a new emulator for the a PSP that is currently delayed because NJ the developer has decided that it is not worth continuing with development. He was worried about speeds and had some difficulty getting the games to run smoothly and at a decent frame rate. Finally, instead of a source code release there was the release of this test version to show the current progress of the emulator.
