from Slasher:After a few tip offs by some fellow Asterz users, as well as some extensive bug testing done by me, I’ve come across several bugs present in the recently released Version 1 of Asterz. So naturally, after squashing these bugs, and even adding a new useful feature, Asterz Version 1.1 is now out for you guys to download.Asterz is an almost professional-like PSP homebrew developed by yours truly. It is a space shooter, with gameplay influenced by the hit arcade classic “Asteroids” originally made by Atari. It makes use of the official PSPGU making for a unique homebrew experience. What that means is that this game is entirely 3d, and even makes use of GU lighting - something that is virtually unseen in PSP homebrews.Version 1.1 sports several bug fixes, as well as a brand new high score saver. Your Arcade Mode high scores will now be saved! Yay! Check out the changelog for all of the details. * Fixed a game compromising bug * Fixed Arcade Mode. Enemies would stop coming after you reached a score of 10000 * Fixed Level 10 from continuing on even if your ship died, thus allowing you to beat the game even if you were dead * Increased difficulty of Arcade Mode slightly * Added a high score saver for Arcade Mode * Changed eboot icon

PSP homebrew developer Slasher dropped by the Qj.NET PSP Development forums to announce the release of Asterz Build 5.

What's new in the build? Our test-flight revealed that Slasher's apparently added the enemy ship he's been working on recently. For the newcomers to this homebrew game, you'll be happy to know that Asterz is quite literally a community effort.

Slasher welcomes any suggestions for the game - those interested in offering theirs will want to visit the release thread over at the QJ/NET PSP Development Forums. Enjoy the download, and the video!

v2007-10-16 · Oct 16, 2007

Another week, another build release. Slasher has come out with the fourth build of his PlayStation Portable homebrew game Asterz, and this time, he's got video showing off the release.

Asterz is a community-based homebrew game. People can offer up suggestions as to what game elements they want to see in the game, and Slasher tries to accomodate the suggestions into the latest build into the game. Unfortunately, Asterz doesn't have a readme or a changelog in this release, so we're at a loss as to what the new build has compared to the previous build, but the game is easy to pick up and play regardless.

In any case, feel free to watch the video and try out the game. You might find a new game to add to your repertoire of homebrew games.

v2007-09-30 · Sep 30, 2007

Asterz Build 3 has implemented some of the community suggestions based on earlier builds. This one's also open for constructive criticism to make it better.

v2007-09-25 · Sep 25, 2007

Slasher and the rest of Team Duck has come out with the latest build of their game: Asterz. This latest version is now compatible with the PSP Slim and Light.

Our previous coverage of the game covered the unique development of this homebrew. In case you missed it, the devs hav said in no uncertain terms that the community gets to decide what the game will contain. The developers have given word that they are willing to tweak every aspect of the game including weapons, power-ups, enemies, and even the in-game physics to create a game customized to what the general community wants.

So download it and try the game out. If you're interested in sharing your ideas, be sure to drop by our PSP forums via the link below.

Homebrew developer Slasher is making a new game made for everyone and - in a sense - by everyone. The game, temporarily called Asterz, is currently in its most basic stage and Slasher is asking for input from the community to make the game.

Right now the build isn't actually a game just yet and only contains a controllable spaceship set on a starry background. Here's Slasher's description of the game-to-be:

This game is going to be called Asterz. Simple, right?

It's pretty basic right now. Use the analog to steer and move, yadda, yadda.

Now here's the catch. This game is going to be constantly updated and made the way YOU want it to be.

Tell me things to add. Weapons, powerups, enemies, anything. Tell me if you want physics tweaked, anything at all tweaked. I'll make the options completely able to tweak nearly every aspect of the game so you can get the settings YOU like - then tell me them

This game is going to be molded and shaped the way you want it to. This is a community project and I hope people actually choose to contribute.

The general look is reminiscent of the classic arcade game Asteroids but without the asteroids. The game doesn't necessarily have to end up like Asteroids though, and as Slasher explains in the forums: "It's not to late to change the entire basis of the game. Right now it's not a game, it's more of a base. Now it just needs building blocks!"
