Archipong Alpha changelog

v0.5 · Sep 28, 2007

Good news, PSP homebrew fans! Developer archilolo has recently churned out a feature-packed update of his quirky take of the Pong game, namely Archipong Alpha v.05. With wacky paddles and even wackier pong balls, as well as a very artistic background that's easy on the eyes - what's not to like? Let's get to the changelog and see what's new with this version!

Do note that the original release thread is in French, so we ran the changelog through an online translating doohickey (thanks Google!)

version 0.5

  • Update which makes the play (finally) interesting… even when one only plays!
  • addition of an artificial intelligence. That makes it possible to have three levels of difficulty. The “easy” level is… very easy (but I have a 4 year old niece who will be glad to gain). For the difficult level, on the other hand, it is hotter.
  • Addition of a mode of play: the score. Opposite you, a racket which renvoit all. The goal? To hold the most exchanges possible!
  • New finely, more ergonomic (fortunately!) that the old one.

v0.4 · Sep 27, 2007

Classic Pong gameplay with a new twist - that is what homebrew developer Archipong from developer archilolo is all about. If you;ve been enjoying the earlier build, you will be happy to know that the developer just came out with version Alpha 0.4. There have been a couple of tweaks and additions to this release.

First of all, Archipong is quite different from all the other Pong games in such a way that it incorporates ball deformation and a system of skins. Changes relevant to version 0.4 include (translated using an online language engine):
addition of beautiful finely.

  • Addition of two musics (it is me which plays piano behind)
  • Addition of a new fashion of play: double racket, where… two rackets are directed
  • New bottom of screen (but you start to have the practice); and sprites of the rackets drawn from a play worship.
  • Addition of a logo
  • Much of optimizations, code changed without result visible with the screen; how it is ungrateful!

v0.3 · Sep 24, 2007

If you've tried the homebrew game Archipong and felt like it did give the classic a new and quirky twist, then you will be happy to know that its owner archilolo has just rolled out a new build bringing it up to version 0.3. Just like the previous build, players still have the option to play solo or against a friend.

If you've missed our last coverage on this, Archipong plays out exactly the same as the classic Pong but several gameplay tweaks were incorporated by archilolo. These include ball rotation, ball deformation, and a system of skins among others. The changes specific to version 0.3 are the following (translated using an online language engine):

  • One cannot change the size of the ball anymore, which made plant the application. Thus it is semi low register.
  • Addition of a pause (while supporting simply on Start)
  • Better management of the collisions: now, there should not any more be the shade of a problem!
  • Automatic adjustment of the size of the rackets. When the difference of score increases, the size of the racket of the player losing lengthen, what gives him more chance to gain!
  • Addition of pretty the spash screen OSlib
  • An image of at home like background!

For those who are willing to give this creation a try, archilolo is accepting suggestions and any bug reports to further improve the game. You can give your comments through the Source link below.

v0.2 · Sep 23, 2007

We now bring you word on the French PSP homebrew development front. French PSP homebrew coder archilolo presents us with a quirky twist to the online game Pong with his PSP 'brew, Archipong v0.2. What archilolo exactly did was take the tried and tested addicting nature of Pong, and and gave it a graphical makeover.

Archipong v0.2 has a trippy, laid-back feel to it. The effects were well-placed and it meshed well with the nature of Pong's gameplay. It should be noted that in this version, the player has the option of playing solo or against a friend. Although the developer notes it's much better to have somebody to play the game with, we found it challenging to keep the object from hitting the walls as long as we could (try the game out to find out and see for yourself just how nerve-wracking it is). Anyway, here's the list of changelog straight from an online translation:

  • operational score
  • progressive acceleration of the ball
  • correction of bugs (that made odd when I do not say it for somebody of other; I did not realize to what a not reading again and to improve a code, was this simple, could be testing! )
  • improvement of the management of the collisions: they is more precise from now on, and that adapts to all the sizes of sprite (both for the rackets the ball)... but in fact, I still have problems with the racket of left!
  • rotation of the ball: a small funny effect which obliged me to re-examine all the tests of collision!
  • possibility of deforming the ball (with the analogical stick). Attention, that tends to make plant the play! that does not change anything with the way in which one plays; therefore, I think that I will transfer it in the long term; but while waiting, I find that funny
  • new graphics; and especially, introduction of the "l'innénarable"

Aside from the aforementioned, archilolo is also looking at some more possible tweaks to further improve Archipong. Here are the changes he wishes to implement in the next version:

  • A page of presentation and reception
  • A system of skin (bottom of screen, ball and rackets)?
  • Rebounds a little less "right angle" (if I arrive there)
  • Sounds and musics made house
  • Original modes of play (disproportionate but long-lived ambition: to do in Pong what Nervous Brickdown is with the break-in brick... )

Go ahead and give this PSP homebrew game a try. The developers also has something to say to anyone who's planning to to give any form of suggestions, tips, or anything that might help in making this project better - "bah, do not hesitate!"
