ArtSwap changelog

v1.4.0 · Oct 28, 2026

New in 1.4.0

Your own pictures

  • Use your own icons, backgrounds and logos. The first cell in the picker shows a QR code: scan it with a phone (or open the address on a computer on the same network) and choose pictures. They arrive on the console in seconds.
  • PNG and JPEG go across as they are; anything else the browser can show (WebP, HEIC on an iPhone) is turned into a PNG on the phone first. Copying files to /data/artswap/pictures over FTP works too.
  • They come first in the Icons, Backgrounds and Logos tabs, tagged YOURS, for every game, and use the same frame page and preview as SteamGridDB's art. A logo wants a PNG with a see-through background: Art Swap says when a picture has none.
  • OPTIONS on one of your pictures deletes it. Games already using it keep it.
  • No SteamGridDB key is needed for your own pictures: the picker opens with them, and □ adds a key.

The home screen's layout

OPTIONS, then Home screen:

  • Move any tile between the Games and Media rows, the system's own too (PlayStation Store, Game Library, Art Swap itself).
  • Hide tiles you never use, such as PlayStation Plus or the Store.
  • Carry a game along the Games row with □ to put it where you want, then lock the order, or sort it A to Z.
  • Apply changes (R2) restarts the home screen with the new layout. No reboot is needed.
  • The layout is written again at every Apply changes, so if an install or a firmware update puts tiles back, the next Apply changes puts them right.

Thanks to elripalda's psgfx, which first found where the home screen keeps its layout.

Also

  • Art Swap has its own logo on its home-screen page.
  • Games installed by Playden (and other installers whose game folders only their own user may write) can have their art changed. Before, the console refused the write.
  • Settings, About shows the right version.

Known issue

  • With OnionHEN loaded, Apply changes can bring up "System Software Error" (CE-108262-9): OnionHEN loads its toolbox into the home screen again when it restarts. OK dismisses it.

You need

  • etaHEN (or kstuff) and ShadowMountPlus (1.7 or later, for renames, added backgrounds and added music). Art Swap starts its own helper through the console's ELF loader on port 9021, which etaHEN and kstuff setups already have.
  • For SteamGridDB's art, your own SteamGridDB API key (free: steamgriddb.com, Preferences, API). Your own pictures need none.

Installing

Copy the PPSA99318 folder from PS5_ArtSwap-v1.4.0.zip to /data/homebrew/ (over an earlier version is fine), or update from ProsperoStore.

Files

  • PS5_ArtSwap-v1.4.0.zip: the title.
  • SHA256SUMS: digests of the zip and the source archives.
  • *.tar.gz and SOURCES.txt: the source of every part of the built title, at the revision it was built from (GPL-3.0-or-later).

Not affiliated with SteamGridDB, Valve or Sony.

v1.3.1 · Oct 23, 2026

New in 1.3.1

  • Renaming no longer installs the game again. Apply changes writes the new name straight into the home screen's database, where the names it shows come from, so nothing of the game is touched. In 1.3.0 a rename had ShadowMountPlus install the game again, and the console's uninstall deletes the game's download data (/user/download/<ID>/download0.dat, its /download0). Some homebrew keeps its saves there, such as mshivam019's Ship of Harkinian, and lost them. Thanks to Hunt846 on Reddit for the report.
  • Adding a background or music to homebrew that had none still installs the game again, since the home screen takes them in only then. Now the game's download data is moved aside first and put back before anything can start the game. If it cannot be moved aside, Art Swap changes nothing.
  • The Apply changes pop-up says what happens to each game: a new name, or an install.

Saves already lost to a 1.3.0 rename cannot be brought back: 1.3.0 kept no copy of the download data. The database is copied to /data/artswap/app.db.backup before Art Swap changes it, and Restore puts an original name back the same way.

Art Swap starts its own helper through the console's ELF loader on port 9021, which etaHEN and kstuff setups already have.

v1.3.0 · Oct 23, 2026

New in 1.3

  • Apply changes (R2): one button shows every change at once. The home screen restarts (a few seconds; nothing else does), and every game's new art shows, whatever installed it: a folder, a disk image or a package. It replaces Refresh game. Renamed games are installed again first, so their new names show too.
  • Logos (□): put a logo from SteamGridDB on a game's page on the home screen, where its name shows in plain text now. It shows straight away and stays when the game is renamed. Store games can also be offered their own logo from PlayStation Store (Settings, Games, off at first), but most jailbroken consoles are kept from Sony's servers, and then it cannot work.
  • Music (OPTIONS, Music): the tune a tile plays while it is selected. Send a song from your phone (a QR code) or copy MP3, FLAC, WAV or AIFF files to /data/artswap/music, choose the clip to keep, hear it as the home screen will, and Art Swap makes the snd0.at9 on the console. The encoder is BlackBearReloaded's ps5-at9-converter, ported to C. Use music that is yours to use.
  • Add a background: homebrew that has none (installed from a folder) can get one. Art Swap writes it as the console writes its own, and Apply changes installs the game again so the home screen takes it in.
  • Sorting (L2): the home screen's own order (most recently used first), A to Z, or the games Art Swap changed first. It starts in the home screen's order and remembers your choice.

Buttons

Face buttons change the art, the shoulder buttons come in left and right pairs, and the rest is in the OPTIONS menu, as on the console's own game pages:

  • ✕ icon, △ background, □ logo
  • L1 R1 six games back or on, L2 sort, R2 apply changes
  • OPTIONS: Music, Rename, Restore originals, Settings, Close Art Swap

Every hint row lists the buttons in the same order. From 1.2: □ was Restore, which is now in OPTIONS.

Also

  • A rename the home screen has not shown yet waits for Apply changes again, even one made before.
  • R2 on the console's keyboard (its Done) no longer opens Apply changes.
  • A game with no background of its own no longer shows the last game's behind it.

Known issue

  • With OnionHEN loaded, Apply changes can bring up "System Software Error" (CE-108262-9): OnionHEN loads its toolbox into the home screen again when it restarts. OK dismisses it.

You need

  • etaHEN (or kstuff), ShadowMountPlus (1.7 or later, for renames, added backgrounds and added music), and an ELF loader on port 9021.
  • Your own SteamGridDB API key (free: steamgriddb.com, Preferences, API).

v1.2.0 · Oct 21, 2026

New in 1.2

  • Refresh home screen is now Refresh game (R2). A refresh installs one game again, so its new icon, background and name show on the home screen; it never redrew the whole home screen. The button, the pop-up and the messages say so, and the pop-up says each game is refreshed on its own: finish a game's changes, then refresh it (about 8 seconds).

Everything from 1.1 is unchanged: the Frame screen, 4K backgrounds listed first, Rename, and Restore.

You need

  • etaHEN (or kstuff), ShadowMountPlus (1.7 or later for refreshing and renaming), and an ELF loader on port 9021.
  • Your own SteamGridDB API key (free: steamgriddb.com, Preferences, API).

Installing

Copy the PPSA99318 folder from PS5_ArtSwap-v1.2.0.zip to /data/homebrew/ (over an earlier version is fine), or update from ProsperoStore.

Files

  • PS5_ArtSwap-v1.2.0.zip: the title.
  • SHA256SUMS: digests of the zip and the source archives.
  • *.tar.gz and SOURCES.txt: the source of every part of the built title, at the revision it was built from (GPL-3.0-or-later).

v1.1.0 · Oct 21, 2026

New in 1.1

  • Frame screen (△ in the picker): choose the part of the picture kept. Fit, Left, Centre, Right (Top, Middle, Bottom for tall pictures), or your own: the left stick or D-pad moves it, R2 and L2 zoom up to 3×. The whole picture shows with the kept part lit, and the exact result beside it. Icons too.
  • Sharper backgrounds: a PS5 background is 3840×2160, and a 1920×620 SteamGridDB background has to be enlarged about 3.5× to fill it. The 3840×1240 ones (about 1.7×) are now listed first and tagged 4K, and the Frame screen warns when a result will look soft.
  • Rename homebrew (L2) that ShadowMountPlus installed from a folder: the new name goes into the game's param.json (every language), and the home-screen refresh shows it. The original is kept as param.json.old; Restore puts it back. Package and retail titles are not renamed.
  • Faster refresh: about 8 seconds instead of 20. The game's folder is no longer copied aside (the uninstall never touches it); Art Swap notes every file before and checks them all afterwards, and still copies the console's saved data of the title aside.
  • Restore, Refresh home screen and Rename sit on their own row on the title page.

You need

  • etaHEN (or kstuff), ShadowMountPlus (1.7 or later for the refresh and renaming), and an ELF loader on port 9021.
  • Your own SteamGridDB API key (free: steamgriddb.com, Preferences, API). Add it from your phone with the QR code Art Swap shows, or with the keyboard.

Installing

Copy the PPSA99318 folder from PS5_ArtSwap-v1.1.0.zip to /data/homebrew/ (over 1.0 is fine: your key, matches and kept originals stay). ShadowMountPlus adds Art Swap to the home screen.

Files

  • PS5_ArtSwap-v1.1.0.zip: the title.
  • SHA256SUMS: digests of the zip and the source archives.
  • *.tar.gz and SOURCES.txt: the source of every part of the built title, at the revision it was built from (GPL-3.0-or-later).

v1.0.0 · Oct 21, 2026

Change the icon and background of any title on your PS5's home screen, with art from SteamGridDB.

What it does

  • Lists every title with home-screen art: PS5 and PS4 games, and homebrew in /data/homebrew and on USB or extended storage.
  • Finds each game on SteamGridDB and shows its art: Icons (square grids) and Backgrounds (heroes).
  • Fill (cut to the frame, right stick slides it) or Fit (all of it on a blurred fill), with an exact preview beside the art there now.
  • Writes the file the console expects: same format, size and DDS layout, every copy at once.
  • Keeps each original once as <file>.old; Restore (□) puts it back.
  • Refresh the home screen (R2) for homebrew that ShadowMountPlus installed from a folder: the title leaves the home screen for a few seconds and comes back with its new art. Nothing is deleted: the game's folder stays where it is, and Art Swap checks every file before and after. It never refreshes a title installed from a package.

You need

  • etaHEN (or kstuff), ShadowMountPlus (1.7 or later for the refresh), and an ELF loader on port 9021.
  • Your own SteamGridDB API key (free: steamgriddb.com, Preferences, API). Add it from your phone with the QR code Art Swap shows, or with the keyboard.

Installing

Copy the PPSA99318 folder from PS5_ArtSwap-v1.0.0.zip to /data/homebrew/. ShadowMountPlus adds Art Swap to the home screen.

Files

  • PS5_ArtSwap-v1.0.0.zip: the title.
  • SHA256SUMS: digests of the zip and the source archives.
  • *.tar.gz and SOURCES.txt: the source of every part of the built title, at the revision it was built from (GPL-3.0-or-later).
