About HENkaku

It opens on a home screen like the Vita's: bubbles, each game's LiveArea, Settings, Content Manager and Trophy Collection. FSR 1 upscales the Vita's 960x544 picture to 1080p.

The first time it starts it needs the PS Vita system software and font package, and the developer's guide explains getting them onto the console. After that, copy your own games to /data/HENkaku/install/ over FTP or onto a USB drive, press Triangle on the home screen and install them from there. It takes .vpk and .zip files and game folders.

The touchpad works as a pointer on the Vita's front screen, L2 and R2 are the rear touch pad, and the DualShock 4's motion sensors stand in for the Vita's. Any button can be remapped, for every game or just one. A PlayStation Camera, or a picture of your own, stands in for the Vita's cameras. L3 + R3 opens a menu for the FPS display, frame generation, the FPS hack and the controls.

The developer says lighter games run at full speed and heavier 3D games at 30 fps or a little under, held back by the PS4's CPU, and that a game that doesn't work in Vita3K won't work here either. Version 1.14 adds the game fixes from nckstwrt's Vita3K+.

Release notes

v1.17 · HENkaku 1.17 · Oct 31, 2026

HENkaku 1.17: PlayStation Vita games on your jailbroken PS4, through Vita3K.

New in 1.17

  • Fixed: Uncharted froze at its first loading screen. The game hands work to its worker threads through Sony's thread library, and the wake-up sent to a sleeping worker got lost, so the loading screen waited forever. It came from Fast atomics (HENkaku > CPU): the 64-bit atomic operations, which that library's lock-free queues use, now always run exactly, while locks and counters stay fast. Other games that froze on a loading screen the same way should load now too.
  • A game thread paused in the middle of an atomic update starts that update over, as on a real Vita.
  • If a game still hangs or crashes where it didn't before, turn Fast atomics off in HENkaku > CPU (it applies when a game starts).

New in 1.15 and 1.16

  • Delete this game: press Square on a game for its settings, then Delete this game, with or without its saves. It removes the game, its update, DLC, license, settings and shader cache.
  • The Freeze log (HENkaku > Diagnostics, on by default) now records where every game thread is when a game shows no new frame for 30 s, so a log can show why a game froze.

New since 1.00

  • Game fixes from Vita3K+ by nckstwrt and contributors: graphics, sound, video, saves and loading in many more games (1.14).
  • DualShock 4 motion and the PlayStation Camera for the Vita's cameras (1.13).
  • Faster games (GPU work on its own thread, Fast system calls and Fast atomics in HENkaku > CPU).
  • Uncharted's black boxes and garbage near water are fixed.
  • The PS4's own keyboard when a game asks you to type; USB and Bluetooth keyboards work too.
  • Themes (built-in, your own colours, PS Vita themes, wallpapers), 3D bubbles, the LiveArea cards home screen, and smoother menus.
  • Fixes: R&C 2 sound (NGS pitch), L3+R3 menu deadlock, freeze on exit, touch pad pointer modes (Hover / Direct).

How to use

  1. Download HENkaku-v01.17.pkg, copy it to your PS4 and install it with GoldHEN's Package Installer.
  2. Start HENkaku. The first time, it downloads the PS Vita firmware and fonts from Sony's update server (or copy Sony's update files to /data/HENkaku/install and install them like a game).
  3. Copy your games (.vpk, .zip, .pkg with its zRIF, NoNpDrm dumps) to /data/HENkaku/install over FTP, press Triangle on the home screen, and install them.

Updating from an earlier HENkaku: install this package over the old one.

Needs a jailbroken PS4 with GoldHEN. No games, firmware or Sony files are included: bring your own games. Full guide, controls and FAQ in the README. Source: this repository (GPL-2.0-or-later, as Vita3K).
