About Dropbear SSH

The first time you open it, it installs the server into the system app area (/system/vsh/app/BREW00010), shows a notification and goes back to the home screen. Close it if it's still open. Open it a second time and Dropbear starts on port 2222.

Log in as root with the password root, or with a public key, which the developer recommends. Running commands and SCP uploads worked in the developer's own runs. Downloads stop at 8 KB, and SFTP, port forwarding and more than one session at a time aren't proven yet.

RuxaXa calls it research software and has only run it on firmware 9.00. It's built with hardening switched off and password login on, so keep it on a network you trust and never open port 2222 to the internet.

Critical warning

This package preserves the historical research configuration:

  • password authentication enabled;
  • compatibility credential root / root;
  • listener on 0.0.0.0:2222;
  • serial DEBUG_NOFORK sessions;
  • cross-build configured with --disable-harden.

Use only on an isolated trusted LAN/VLAN. Never expose TCP 2222 to the internet.

Installation lifecycle

  1. Install through an authorized PS4 homebrew package installer.
  2. First tile launch stages the daemon under /system/vsh/app/BREW00010 and displays a notification.
  3. Close the tile if it remains mapped.
  4. A later fresh tile launch starts Dropbear on TCP 2222.

The installer writes to the PS4 system application area and requires an already authorized/jailbroken environment.

Validation

  • OpenOrbis PkgTool.Core pkg_validate --verbose: PASS
