About 3ds Google Maps
Despite the name, the maps come from OpenStreetMap and Esri. Pan by touch, D-Pad or Circle Pad and zoom with X and Y. Settings switch between OSM streets, Esri satellite and Esri street map, and every tile you look at is cached on the SD card.
The 3DS has no GPS, so it borrows your phone's. Open the GPS tab in settings and tap Server, scan the QR code with your phone and allow location access. Both need to be on the same Wi-Fi, or the 3DS on the phone's hotspot. The certificate is self-signed, so the browser shows a warning you have to tap through. The author says to use Chrome on an iPhone, as Safari has been unreliable. There's also an NMEA TCP mode for apps like GPS2IP.
Place search goes through Nominatim and routes come from OSRM. You can save favourites, and Identify tells you what's at the centre of the map.
To use it without Wi-Fi, run tools/download_region.py on a PC with Python 3. It packs a region into a single .tilepack file. Copy that to sdmc:/3ds_google_maps/tiles/ and the app loads it at startup.
