Works on: PS3 custom firmware (Evilnat, Rebug and others) and PS3HEN. The same package installs on both.
Needs: an internet connection.
PSN on the PS3 is winding down, and the community has scattered across Discord servers, forums and Reddit. None of them live on the console. CELL puts the community back on the PS3. You open it from the Game column, sign in once, and you're in a live social feed built for the PS3: playable with the controller, sized for a TV, and fast on 2006 hardware.
CELL doesn't connect to Sony. It runs on its own server, so it keeps working no matter what happens to PSN. Your account is tied to your console and backed up on the hard drive, so deleting and reinstalling CELL doesn't lose it.
CELL also helps keep PS3 online play alive. Its Play Online section lists more than 90 games that fan revival servers have brought back, including PS Rewired, PSONE, Warhawk Revived and PS Reborn. Each game comes with the exact DNS steps to connect, plus live "It worked / It's broken" reports from other players. You can also plan game nights so lobbies aren't empty when you show up.
